Job summary

RBC is seeking an Associate Director, Lead Software Developer to join a highly talented engineering team that builds and maintains high-availability, low-latency real-time systems in the Fixed Income Cash/Derivatives trading space.

You will lead design and development across trade booking, execution, and post-trade workflows, mentor developers, collaborate with product owners, and drive standards for scalable, testable Java services.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing and developing distributed, low-latency systems.
• 5+ years hands-on Java 17+ with Spring Framework.
• Experience in Capital Markets domain (any asset class).
• Knowledge of relational databases and messaging systems (Kafka, Solace, IBM MQ).
• Experience with caching technologies like Redis or Apache Ignite.
• Strong code quality: clean Java, unit/integration tests.
• DevOps experience: CI/CD, Git, Jenkins, Artifactory, and issue tracking.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the overall design and development of RBC's Cash trade management systems.
• Lead and mentor other developers to elevate the team's skill and mindset.
• Collaborate with product owners, BAs, sales and trading to translate needs into software solutions.
• Develop deep understanding of currency flows, challenge status quo, and propose strategic solutions.
• Set high development standards for scalable, performant systems.
• Provide Level 2 support as needed.
