Associate Director, Alternative Investment Services

The incumbent is responsible for leading the AIS operation group and for coaching, mentoring, and leading a group of team managers. Responsible for ensuring RBCIS policies & procedures are strictly adhered to and ensuring all department processes & controls are followed. Foster a mindset of client-centric service, professionalism, and collaboration. Encourage and support the implementation of process enhancements, simplification, and automation. Provide oversight of the ongoing production of accurate net asset values (NAVs) for the group’s entire fund and pension range that holds derivatives. Provide oversight of all business processes, risks, audits, regulatory requirements, and key performance metrics (SLAs/KPIs).

What will you do?

  • Lead and manage daily derivative operations processes, including trade capture, trade affirmation, settlement, margin management, and lifecycle event processing.
  • Oversee exception management, trade breaks, and reconciliation processes to ensure timely and accurate resolution.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders (Trading, Risk, Compliance, Technology, Legal, and Middle Office) as well as external counterparties, clearing brokers, and custodians.
  • Collaborate with technology and project management teams on system enhancements, automation initiatives, and process improvements.
  • Ensure all operational activities adhere to regulatory guidelines and internal policies, maintaining a strong control environment.
  • Provide strategic insights and operational leadership on new product launches, market initiatives, and regulatory change programs.
  • Mentor, train, and develop team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Produce and deliver operational metrics, KPIs, and management reporting to senior leadership.
  • Manage and participate in audits, and internal control reviews.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business, Economics, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in financial services operations, with a focus on derivative products.
  • Strong understanding of derivative instruments including listed futures/options, OTC swaps, forwards, and structured notes.
  • Deep knowledge of post-trade processes, clearing and settlement, margining, and trade lifecycle management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex operational processes in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent leadership, people management, and mentoring skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
