Introduction

In this role, you'll work in one of our IBM Consulting Client Innovation Centers (Delivery Centers), where we deliver deep technical and industry expertise to a wide range of public and private sector clients around the world. Our delivery centers offer our clients locally based skills and technical expertise to drive innovation and adoption of new technology.

Your role and responsibilities

The IBM Client Innovation Centre (CIC) occupies a unique position in the IT marketplace - at the intersection of business and technology. In this role, you'll work in our IBM CIC, delivering deep technical and industry expertise to clients worldwide, helping them solve challenging business problems, capitalize on market opportunities, and achieve real value.

As an Associate Java/Web Developer, you will be able to:

  • Develop, test, and deploy software applications using Java.
  • Implement and configure ArcGIS and ETRM tools to support business processes.
  • Collaborate with analysts and stakeholders to understand requirements and develop scalable solutions.
  • Participate in the full SDLC, from conceptualization through delivery and maintenance.
  • Ensure application performance, quality, and responsiveness; identify and fix bottlenecks and bugs.
  • Help maintain code quality, organization, and automation; contribute to process improvements.

Required technical and professional expertise

Qualifications:

  • Eligibility to work in Canada without future visa sponsorship (valid work permit, permanent residency, or Canadian citizenship).
  • Willingness to live and work in Calgary, AB.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, industrial fields (oil & gas, mining), computer engineering, software engineering, or software development.

Core Competencies:

  • Proficient understanding of Java and its ecosystems (e.g., Spring, Hibernate).
  • Experience with industrial software applications such as ArcGIS Server.
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS API for JavaScript.
  • Understanding of ETRM systems is preferred.

Additional Skills:

  • Familiarity with agile methods and Scrum frameworks.
  • Basic knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).

Soft Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork.
  • Curiosity and eagerness to learn emerging tools/tech.

Preferred technical and professional experience

Experience in oil & gas, mining, or industrial applications is a plus.
