The Role

The Thornton Tomasetti Acoustics, Noise and vibration team deliver projects controlling noise and vibration that can be critical to the success of a building.

Perfecting the acoustics in a concert hall. Making it easier for students to concentrate in class. Limiting uncomfortable sway in tall buildings. Protecting industrial workers from hearing loss. Keeping sensitive medical imaging equipment rocks steady. Complying with national or local regulations. Preventing your construction activity from damaging nearby structures. The goal of an acoustics engineer is maximizing occupant safety and comfort in all types of structures – new and old – and tuning listening spaces for optimal acoustics.

You’ll be part of a local team of industry-leading specialists delivering projects globally. The role will require managing multiple projects, with direct interaction with clients, architects, engineers, and contractors. You’ll also be responsible for revenue generation with project pursuits including developing proposals and client presentations. While managing and developing a team of engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Solving scientific and engineering problems.
  • Data collection, modeling, post-processing, analysis documentation of results.
  • Conducting field work while visiting sites globally.
  • Project team leadership, and the development of junior engineers.
  • Writing technical reports covering methodology, results, and recommendations.
  • Preparing proposals, marketing materials and/or technical papers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science, advanced degrees an asset.
  • Experience in acoustic, noise and vibration control within buildings.
  • Familiarity with sound and vibration measurement instruments and modeling software (e.g., CADNA/A, STAMSON, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and guidelines.
  • Proven experience in successfully dealing with regulatory agencies.
  • Knowledge of physical acoustics and regulatory permitting requirements.
  • Ability to interpret process flow/mechanical/electrical drawings.

Compensation

The base rate for this position generally is $105,000 - $135,000 CAD annually, plus bonus and benefits. Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted. Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location and comparison to employee already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law. A potential new employee’s pay history will not be used in compensation decisions.
