This job posting is for an existing vacancy and is intended to fill a current position within our organization.

We are currently looking for an Assistant Supervisor to join our team of committed professionals. This full-time contract position within the Association is housed at the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario’s Poplar location in Timmins.

Under the leadership of the Supervisor of Child, Youth and Family Development, the Assistant Supervisor of Child, Youth and Family Development is responsible for the overall operation of the child care site and for overseeing the day-to-day delivery of safe, high-quality educational child care for children 0-12 years, while ensuring the children’s overall health, safety and well-being.

START DATE: May 5, 2025

LOCATION: Timmins, ON

RATE OF PAY: $19.70 per hour

Major Responsibilities

  • Ensure the overall health, safety and well-being of the children
  • Oversee, support and ensure the delivery of high-quality educational programming, by following the National curriculum, YMCA Playing to Learn, YMCA Health Childhood Development, CATCH and YMCA’s School-Age programs
  • Assess and support the skills, abilities, interests and needs of the staff and children
  • Complete weekly class lists for Finance
  • Supply finance with all registration requirements one (1) week prior to child’s start date.
  • Implement and support the guidelines/regulations of the Child Care & Early Years Act (CCEYA) as well as all third party governing agencies such as DSSAB/Municipality, Public Health and Fire Department
  • Assist with the development and implementation of a site plan and monitor it to ensure 90% site capacity at all times
  • Assist with identifying, bringing forward, and implementing solutions for program delivery issues
  • Assist with training and support staff and volunteers
  • Communicate with parents/guardians on the progress or problems of their children and address any of their concerns

Qualifications

  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR (Level C) *Recognized by the WSIB
  • Specialized training and/or experience with children with specialized needs is considered an asset
  • Certification in YMCA Playing to Learn, ‘A Place to Connect’ and/or Healthy Child Development is an asset
  • Food Safety Handlers Course is an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (French communication skills considered an asset)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Solid knowledge of the Child Care & Early Years Act (CCEYA)
  • Solid knowledge of the YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum, YMCA Health Childhood Development, CATCH and the YMCA’s School-Age programs
  • Time management and organizational skills and meet deadlines
  • Ability to protect the confidentiality of all information and communications (oral and written) pertaining to the association, its officers, staff, students, volunteers, the children in our care and their families
  • Bilingualism in both official languages considered an asset
  • Current and satisfactory Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector
