Job summary

Bird Construction is seeking an Assistant Superintendent to lead on-site construction activities in Ontario. You will supervise field staff and subcontractors, ensure safety, quality, and schedule adherence, and coordinate with the Superintendent and Project Manager to resolve issues.

The role requires a construction management or engineering background, 5+ years of ICI experience, and proficiency with project documentation and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in construction management, engineering, or a trades background.
  • Certification in First Aid/CPR, WHMIS
  • 5+ years’ experience in the construction industry within the ICI field
  • Valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Strong familiarity with contract administration, drawings, specifications, architectural and engineering standards, and building practices, including building codes
  • Good understanding of mechanical and electrical installations, including commissioning and handover
  • Solid knowledge of construction industry practices, OBC, OSHA, and safety standards
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, MS Project, Electronic Document Management Systems, and Bluebeam
  • Strong leadership experience managing multiple disciplines, internal employees, and external sub-trades
  • Ability to inspire trust and instill confidence in challenging situations
  • Adaptability to lead and operate effectively in environments with frequent change
  • Proven ability to build and maintain positive relationships with diverse groups
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet time demands in a dynamic business environment
  • Capability to work within tight deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with high accuracy and attention to detail

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the quality of subcontractor workmanship and building materials.
  • Confirm sufficient manpower is available to achieve safety, schedule, and quality objectives.
  • Maintain accurate daily documentation, including field reports, safety inspections, and schedule updates.

Assistant Superintendent

Reporting to the General Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent is responsible for on-site management of construction projects, leading and coordinating subcontractors and Bird craft labour. This role ensures safe, efficient execution of field operations in alignment with company objectives. Please note this role may require you to obtain Secret-level security clearance and will be based in Petawawa, Ontario

What You Will Be Working On
