Job summary

Healthy Planet in Richmond Hill, Ontario seeks an Assistant Store Manager in Training to learn store operations, lead teams, and drive exceptional customer experiences. This hands-on program pairs mentorship with structured development to prepare you for future store management roles.

You'll shadow the Store Manager, participate in recruitment and training, handle daily tasks, and contribute to merchandising and KPI improvements while upholding wellness values.

As an Assistant Store Manager in Training, you'll learn the full scope of store operations, strengthen your leadership abilities, and gain the skills to drive team performance, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction - paving the way for long-term growth within the Healthy Planet family.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership Development & Team Support

• Work closely with the Store Manager and senior leaders to learn key management functions
• Participate in the recruitment, onboarding, and training of new team members
• Support staff supervision, providing daily guidance and helping to resolve frontline challenges
• Learn how to coach, motivate, and build strong, high-performing teams

Store Operations & Policy Compliance

• Shadow the Store Manager to gain experience in managing daily operations
• Assist with opening and closing procedures and managing shift transitions
• Ensure store cleanliness, health & safety, and adherence to company policies and SOPs
• Participate in audits and ensure operational documentation is completed accurately

Customer Experience & Service Recovery

• Learn how to deliver outstanding customer experiences and resolve issues professionally
• Observe and contribute to maintaining a welcoming, well-organized, and customer-first environment
• Develop communication skills that help de-escalate challenges and build lasting customer trust
• Assist in the execution of in-store promotions and merchandising initiatives
• Learn how to analyze sales data, understand store KPIs, and suggest strategies for improvement
• Gain hands‑on experience in visual merchandising and product placement best practices
• Support inventory control efforts including receiving, restocking, and shrink prevention
• Participate in ordering via the 'Just In Time' system under guidance from store leadership
• Learn the basics of financial reporting, cash handling, and daily reconciliation processes

Training & Development

• Completion of required Lessonly training modules
• Ongoing participation in workshops and brand education sessions to stay current on wellness trends and company initiatives
• Commitment to attendance, punctuality, team collaboration, and reliability

Other Duties

• Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

• 2+ years of experience in a retail environment, preferably with some leadership exposure
• Passion for health, wellness, and customer service
• A desire to grow into a long-term leadership role
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Excellent time management and organizational skills
• Proactive, adaptable, and solution-oriented mindset
• Experience or interest in the natural health or grocery industry is an asset
• Comfort working on your feet and lifting up to 40 lbs
• Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Completion of required Lessonly training modules
