Summary

Assists the Store Manager in providing day-to-day management of the store, including growing sales, staffing, merchandising, expense control, providing a safe environment for employees and customers, and delivering a superior shopping experience. The Assistant Store Manager operates within company policies, government legislation, and collective agreements.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Store Manager to achieve or exceed store goals related to sales, profit, margins, shrink, and labor targets.
• Implement merchandising programs and procedures to maximize operational efficiency and profitability.
• Work with Department Managers to set productivity goals and ensure merchandise is ordered and displayed according to planograms.
• Maintain store compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Lead staffing efforts, including hiring, training, and development to ensure a customer-focused team.
• Utilize new technology initiatives and ensure staff proficiency.
• Monitor competitive activity and recommend strategies to overcome disadvantages.
• Participate in community involvement initiatives to enhance the store's image.
• Build and maintain relationships with vendors and union representatives.

Qualifications

• College or University education
• 3 to 5 years of progressive management experience
• Intermediate Microsoft Office skills
• Good business acumen
• Strong communication, organizational, leadership, and time management skills
