Assistant Project Manager - Buildings

Maple Reinders is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the contract for the construction of the Royal BC Museum Collections and Research Building in Colwood, (Victoria) BC. The new facility will be an advanced, sustainable, and culturally sensitive building that will serve as a community and learning hub for the region. Once complete, the new facility will house the Royal BC Museum's collections, research departments, learning spaces and the BC Archives. Mass timber construction will be used extensively and the building will meet CleanBC energy efficiency standards, and be LEED Gold Certified.

As an Assistant Project Manager in our Buildings division, you will have the opportunity to support our Project Managers in the delivery of our exciting Industrial, Commercial and Institutional building projects. The focus of your role will be to maintain contract documentation, support estimating and assist with the preparation of budgets and schedules. We work on a variety of types of contracts such as Design Build, Plan and Spec and Construction Management and you will gain experience on all of these.

The purpose of the Assistant Project Manager in supporting the Project Manager is to ensure that a profit is made on the project, that the work is performed as per the contract documents, that the project is completed with outstanding quality, and that the jobsite is a safe workplace. In doing so, you will be involved in:

  • Assisting in preparing budgets and cost projections, setting up project administration files
  • Assisting with correspondence to Owner, Architect, Engineers, sub-trades and suppliers in cooperation with the Project Manager and Superintendent
  • Selecting suppliers and sub-trades and obtaining quotations
  • Assisting in preparing and updating the project construction schedule
  • Developing successful relationships with current and prospective clients, consultants, realtors, and developers
  • Ensuring there is a continuous focus on site safety in accordance with regulatory requirements as well as our Corporate Health and Safety Policy
  • Attending site meetings and assisting in the completion of project deficiencies
  • Closing tenders in consultation with senior managers

At Maple, we are looking for individuals who have the skills and desire to take on the role of Assistant Project Manager, but have the drive to become a Project Manager.

To be considered for this role you will have:

  • Minimum 2-5 years or more experience as a Project Coordinator in the construction industry.
  • A University Degree/Technology Diploma in Civil Engineering, or a combination of education and industry experience.
