The University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver invites applications for an Assistant Professor, Tenure Track, in U-Pb geochronology within the Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences. The position starts July 1, 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter, with a salary range of 140,000–150,000 CAD per annum.

We seek an innovative geochronologist capable of developing high-precision U-Pb petrochronology methods and addressing broad solid-Earth questions.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Earth Sciences or related field completed by appointment.
  • Strong record of research productivity and potential for high-impact work.
  • Ability to attract external research funding or clear potential to do so.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in academic settings.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and sustain an externally funded, internationally recognized research program in geochronology.
  • Supervise and mentor graduate students and postdoctoral researchers.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate Earth sciences courses and contribute to EOAS curriculum.
  • Help sustain PCIGR and its infrastructure and technical team.
  • Engage in departmental, university, and professional service activities.
  • Collaborate with EOAS faculty, PCIGR, EMXDF, MDRU, and external partners.
