Assistant Manager - Retail

Grey Gardens is seeking to promote our current Assistant Manager and is looking for a new team member to join us. We are a fine-dining restaurant located in Kensington Market, known for our strong wine focus and recognition by Michelin Bib Gourmand since Toronto's list inception. FOH and BOH positions are highly valued here, with staff typically staying for years.

This hybrid role involves both serving and management shifts weekly, with compensation through tips at a full point. Ideal candidates will have at least 5 years of fine dining service experience, 2 years of management experience, and solid wine knowledge. We value outgoing, personable, and friendly individuals committed to creating memorable guest experiences.

Responsibilities

• Serve a section approximately 2 nights per week when the General Manager is on duty
• Manage the restaurant during approximately 2 nights per week when the General Manager is absent
• Collaborate with the General Manager to lead FOH staff, maintaining high standards of service, food, and guest experience
• Provide feedback to employees based on service observations
• Maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive work environment in line with Grey Gardens Employee Manual
• Supervise restaurant operations, conduct pre-shift meetings, manage menus, and submit end-of-shift reports in the absence of the General Manager
• Respond to emails and handle reservations when the General Manager is unavailable
• Attend weekly management meetings

Work Schedule and Compensation

Expected commitment: 35-40 hours/week

• Approximately 20 hours as floor manager (2 shifts)
• Approximately 20 hours as server (2-3 shifts)
