Job summary

MSALABS in Prince George, Canada, is seeking an Assistant Laboratory Manager to support the Laboratory Manager and oversee daily laboratory operations. You will ensure efficient testing processes and adherence to quality standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or a related discipline.
• 5-10 years of laboratory experience.
• Minimum 2 years as a supervisor/manager.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with ability to multitask and prioritize under pressure.
• Production operation rather than chemical analysis.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and 17025 is an advantage.
• Manual handling and exposure to outside temperature (winter/summer) likely for yard and forklift.

The Assistant Laboratory Manager supports the Laboratory Manager in overseeing daily laboratory operations, ensuring the efficient execution of testing processes and compliance with quality standards. This role involves managing personnel, assisting in technical troubleshooting, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring safety protocols are followed.

Job Requirements and responsibilities :

Operational Management:

• Assist in managing client jobs within the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
• Oversee daily laboratory workflows to ensure timely completion of tasks.
• Coordinate routine maintenance and timely repair of laboratory equipment.
• Support the inventory management process by tracking consumables and assisting in procurement.

Quality Assurance:

• Enforce quality control procedures under the guidance of the Laboratory Manager.
• Ensure adherence to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Collaborate with the team to maintain compliance with quality certifications and documentation.

Technical Support:

• Provide hands-on support for complex testing and troubleshooting.

• Contribute to the development and validation of laboratory methods.

Staff Management:

• Assist in monitoring staffing levels and coordinating shift schedules.
• Support staff performance reviews and recommend training needs.

• Proactively identify areas for process optimization.
• Assist in implementing cost-saving measures while maintaining quality.

Education:

• Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or a related discipline.
