Job summary

Covenant Health in Edmonton seeks an Assistant Head Nurse to provide clinical leadership and supervise 0.74 FTE in 5W General Medicine. The AHN promotes strong nursing practice, coordinates staff, and supports multidisciplinary learning while upholding UNA terms.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a Registered Nurse program with active Alberta registration.
• 3 years recent acute care hospital experience; 2 years supervisory/leadership.
• Strong assessment, prioritization, communication and teamwork in fast-paced settings.
• Preferred: CNA in Geriatrics or Medicine/Surgery; EMR/Connect Care proficiency.

Description: The Assistant Head Nurse (AHN) provides effective clinical leadership, functional supervision and, as needed, performs front line Registered Nursing duties. The AHN promotes and models leadership competencies by demonstrating good judgement and critical thinking skills, and developing and maintaining strong nursing practice in the designated scope of practice. Required Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: Graduate of a Registered Nurse program or recognized equivalent required.Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) or College of Registered Psychiatric Nurse of Alberta (CRPNA) is required.Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.

Additional Required Qualifications:

3 years recent acute care experience in a hospital-based medical or General Internal Medicine setting.2 years demonstrated supervisory or leadership experience (e.g. Charge Nurse or other leadership experience).Experience caring for patients with complex medical conditions, multiple comorbidities, and changing clinical needs.Strong clinical assessment, prioritization, communication, and interdisciplinary teamwork skills.Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced acute care team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Current CNA certification in Geriatrics or Medicine/Surgery. Current education and access in Ambulatory Connect Care. Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records, Connect Care, VAX and ESP. Committed to safe, effective, and ethical patient care and work practices. Able to deescalate tense situations. Ability to participate as an effective member of and lead the interprofessional team.
