Job summary

PAL Finance is hiring an Assistant Controller in St. John's, NL to lead financial reporting and internal controls within a growing multi-divisional organization.

You will partner with senior management to analyze performance, drive budgeting, and ensure timely financial statements while mentoring junior staff. A CPA path and strong communication are highly valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• CPA designation or significant progression towards CPA is required.
• Minimum 3 years of progressive relevant experience, preferably in a large, multi-divisional organization.
• Superior communication and interpersonal skills, driven to support other team members’ success.
• Ability to work closely with senior management at all levels within the organization.
• A passion to work in a progressive team environment, creating new solutions through professional skills.
• Holistic view to personal initiative, self-motivation, and results-oriented work ethic.
• Consultative approach – working with diverse teams from multi-disciplinary backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly variance analyses and commentary for management review.
• Prepare balance sheet and income statement analyses and commentary.
• Monitor and maintain internal controls and accounting procedures.
• Prepare timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Review general ledger activity for accuracy and completeness.
• Support year-end audit and year-end working papers.
• Support annual divisional budgets and forecasts.
• Assist in customer invoicing preparation and review.
• Collaborate with divisional managers on business operations matters.
• Mentor and train accounting staff; assist with workflow planning.
• Handle other duties and special projects as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prepare monthly variance analysis and Commentary for management review;

Qualifications:

• Completion of a Bachelors’ degree.
• Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) Designation, or significant progression towards completion of the CPA program is required.
• A minimum of 3 years of progressive relevant experience, preferably in a large, multi-divisional organization.
• Superior communication and interpersonal skills, driven to support other team members’ success.
• Ability to work closely with senior management at all levels within the organization.
• A passion to work in a progressive teamed environment, creating new solutions through extensive application of professional skills.
• A holistic view to personal initiative, self-motivation, and results-oriented work ethic.
