Job summary

Garaga inc. is seeking an Assistant Controller to partner with production and operations, ensuring accurate financial data and continuous process improvements. The role focuses on manufacturing cost accounting, inventory management, and profitability analysis across products and projects.

The position reports to the Finance Director, is permanent, and based on-site with occasional remote work from our Barrie, Ontario plant. Full-time schedule, day shift, Monday–Friday.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or related field.
• CPA designation (completed or in progress).
• Experience 3–7 years in accounting, preferably in manufacturing.
• Strong understanding of full accounting cycle and cost accounting in manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Partner with production and operations to ensure accurate financial data.
• Maintain standard product costs and analyze variances.
• Monitor inventory and adjustments; support KPI improvements.
• Prepare monthly/annual financial statements and closing activities.
• Assist budgets, forecasts, audits, and internal controls.

Reporting to the Finance Director, you will participate in managing the accounting and financial operations of our manufacturing company. You will contribute to financial closing activities, results analysis, as well as manufacturing cost tracking and operational profitability.

You will strengthen the finance function while providing increased analytical support to manufacturing operations, particularly in the areas of cost control, inventory management, and profitability.

Please note that this position is based at our Barrie, ON site and requires full-time on-site presence.

Role and responsabilities of the Assistant Controller :

You will act as a financial partner alongside production and operations teams to ensure the accuracy of financial data and the continuous improvement of processes.

Manufacturing Analysis and Cost Accounting

• Participate in maintaining and validating standard product costs.
• Analyze production, raw material, labor, and efficiency variances.
• Monitor inventory and required adjustments.
• Collaborate with production, purchasing, and operations teams to ensure the accuracy of manufacturing data.
• Participate in margin and profitability analysis by product, project, or customer.
• Contribute to the improvement of manufacturing performance indicators (KPIs).
• Participate in physical inventory counts and inventory variance analyses.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and cost optimization efforts.

Accouting and Financial Reporting

• Participate in the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements.
• Prepare various month-end journal entries.
• Participate in the monthly and annual closing process.
• Produce various financial reports and analyses for management.
• Participate in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.
• Support external audits and government requests.
• Contribute to the improvement of internal controls and accounting processes.

Required qualifications for our Assistant Controller :

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CPA designation (completed or in progress).
• 3 to 7 years of accounting experience, ideally in a manufacturing environment.
• Good understanding of the full accounting cycle.
• Knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting principles.
• Experience with manufacturing ERP system.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
