Job summary

Avon Search is recruiting an Assistant Chef for a highly regarded residential care home in Cawston, near Norwich. The role supports the Head Chef to prepare nutritious, appetising meals tailored to residents’ dietary needs while upholding high hygiene standards.

The home offers a warm, family-run environment with 36 en-suite bedrooms and a dignified, person-centred approach. £13.50 per hour, 30 hours per week, paid breaks, ongoing training and development, and a supportive team.

Qualifications

• Experience in a professional kitchen, care home or hospitality setting is desirable.
• Passion for preparing fresh, nutritious meals.
• Knowledge of food hygiene and Health & Safety procedures.
• Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
• Organised, reliable and able to work well under pressure.
• Caring, friendly approach with understanding of nutrition in later life.
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assisting with the preparation and cooking of high-quality meals.
• Supporting the Head Chef with daily kitchen operations.
• Preparing meals to accommodate special diets and nutritional needs.
• Maintaining excellent food hygiene and infection control standards.
• Ensuring the kitchen is clean, safe and fully compliant with Health & Safety regulations.
• Receiving and storing deliveries correctly.
• Helping to create an enjoyable dining experience for residents.
• Working collaboratively as part of a friendly and supportive team.
