Job summary

The Government of the Northwest Territories is seeking an Assessment Technician to support the team in the evaluation of properties across the NWT. You will manage both physical and computerized assessment files and assist in producing accurate assessment rolls for the department, communicating findings to stakeholders.

This role requires teamwork, attention to detail and knowledge of the Property Assessment and Taxation Act.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent, plus typing/keyboarding courses or equivalent office procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of the Property Assessment and Taxation Act and related regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the assessment of approximately 13,000 properties in the NWT.
  • Maintain assessment files (physical and computerized) and related information reports.
  • Communicate assessment information to MACA staff, other government departments, local communities and the public.

Department Information

The Department of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA), supports capable, accountable and self-directed community governments providing a safe, sustainable and healthy environment for community residents.

Job Information

The Assessment Technician works in a team environment and handles the administrative functions required for the assessment of approximately 13,000 properties in the NWT. The Assessment Technician maintains assessment files (both physical and computerized) and information reports with respect to the production of accurate assessment rolls on behalf of the Department. This information is communicated to all parties involved including other members of MACA's assessment team, other government departments, local community governments and the general public.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team in wide range of duties;
  • Familiar with the legal land documentation and terminology;
  • Ability to apply knowledge of the Property Assessment and Taxation Act and pursuant Regulations to the technical and regulatory requirements of this Act;

The knowledge, skills and abilities described above are typically acquired through the completion of a grade 12 diploma or equivalent, plus combination of typing/keyboarding courses and general office procedures; or the equivalent in experience in similar positions.
