Job summary

Western University is seeking an Assessment Coordinator for Accommodated Exams within the Student Experience portfolio. The role plans, manages and facilitates accommodations for timed assessments, aligning with Senate requirements and provincial accessibility laws.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 2 years’ progressive experience in a post-secondary exam environment.
  • 1 year scheduling resources, facilities and equipment to support student needs.
  • 1 year customer service experience.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to balance competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly (oral and written).
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage and facilitate accommodated assessments ensuring service standards are met.
  • Develop and review policies/procedures related to Accommodated Exams.
  • Provide training to proctoring team to ensure exemplary customer service.
  • Collaborate with instructors, proctors and students to support accessibility and equity.
  • Advise on process improvements to enhance student experience.

About Us

As part of the Student Experience portfolio, Accommodated Exams facilitates the delivery of examinations to registered students with disabilities at Western. Team members work with instructors, proctors and students to provide access to accommodations during timed assessments, working to support equity, inclusion, and full participation in the educational environment.

Responsibilities

The Assessment Coordinator will work with the Accommodated Exams team to plan, manage and facilitate accommodated assessments, ensuring that all service standards are met for students in accordance with Western’s Senate requirements, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, and the Ontario Human Rights Code. The Assessment Coordinator will actively participate in the development of policies and procedures related to the administration of Accommodated Exams and review existing policies and processes to identify opportunities for improvement and to enhance customer service. The role will provide training to the proctoring team to ensure the delivery of exemplary customer service to various stakeholders.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Administration/Human Resources or Information Management preferred

Experience:

  • 2 years’ progressive experience within a post-secondary academic environment supporting examination services
  • 1 year experience in scheduling appropriate resources, facilities and equipment to support student needs
  • 1 year customer service experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to balance competing priorities and assignment of workloads
  • Ability to apply judgement in difficult situations
  • Demonstrated initiative to recommend and implement changes for ongoing improvements to services
  • Advanced ability to effectively communicate (orally and in writing) with strong customer service orientation
  • Ability to establish effective routines for excellent communication with all members of the team to maximize productivity
  • Demonstrated ability to apply change management principles
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional development
  • Ability to understand customer needs and expectations and provide excellent customer service directly and indirectly to satisfy expectations
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize sizable amounts of detail/data
  • Basic understanding of financial theories and budgeting
  • Ability to work within a flexible schedule to accommodate the University’s events and activities with flexibility to work outside regular business hours, i.e. Convocation, Western exam periods, out of hours exams scheduled by external customers
  • Self-driven, independent thinker who is highly motivated and possesses an intrinsic passion for quality
  • Ability to work in a manner that is compliant with confidentiality requirements
  • Professional manner, tact, diplomacy and discretion in dealing with associates and colleagues including senior management
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Access) and PeopleSoft
