What you inherit

A 5 person instrumentation assembly team using daily huddles and scrums to drive workflow.We have defined SOPs and a tightly managed schedule. Lead times - ergo expedited delivery - are an important driver of business.We use Epicor as an ERP system.

Your Mission

Slay the Backlog! Maximize the business impact of our Assembly Team.Iterate on assembly operations to achieve higher throughput and improved quality.Maximize customer loyalty by achieving targeted delivery lead times.Make sure you and your team have fun along the way!

What You'll be Accountable For
  • Owns Build Throughput: Is the team efficient?
  • Owns Assembler Utilization Rate: Are we using all resources appropriately?
  • Owns Lead Times: Are established lead times respected?
  • Owns Build Quality: Is quality and workmanship at an appropriate level?
  • Owns Assembly Improvement: How do we achieve more with similar resources?
  • Owns Assembly Function Talent:Do we have the right people on the team?
  • Owns Assembly Health & Safety: Is our operation safe?
  • Embeds the AML Way: Do we operate using our standardized methodology?
Your Skills & Competencies
  • Data Extraction & Analysis: Able to extract ERP data to drive production floor insight
  • Capacity & Schedule Literacy: Reads kit availability, tech load, and job priority as one picture; sequences the day to deliver on all three
  • Able to Create Alignment: Assesses competing interests, balances trade offs, and engenders team buy in
  • Talent Calibration: Able to assess Assembly Techs against AML's ABC framework; understands people and their motivations
  • Direct but Kind Feedback: Ability to deliver hard conversations in real time without residue; feedback is specific and behavioural
  • Diagnostic Craft: Identifies bottlenecks and sees root cause rather than symptom, including people versus process
  • Composure Under Pressure: Stays calm when orders are urgent or when capacity is insufficient to meet demand
  • Continuous Improvement Mindset: Sees the assembly workflow as a designable system; partners with others to sequence, scope, and validate improvements
OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Must have skills and experiences
  • Experience Working on a Manufacturing Floor: 5+ years working in a light production environment
  • Experience Supervising Technical Teams: Minimum 2 years experience managing teams of at least 5
  • Demonstrated Track Record of Improving Process: Multiple examples of process improvement that directly impacts manufacturing teams
  • Technology Fluency: Accustomed to work within a structured ERP, preferably Epicor; Able to use MS Excel to filter, sort, and group data for insight
  • English:Native or near native written and spoken fluency
  • Location: On-site 5 days per week in Victoria, BC
OTHER DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Nice to have skills and experiences
  • Electronics Experience: Work experience with products that incorporate PCBs
  • Education as a Technologist: Formal tertiary education in a technical domain
  • Formal Manufacturing Training: Certificates in Six Sigma, Lean, Kaizen, 5S, TPM, etc.
  • Quality Systems Familiarity: Experience operating within a formal ISO 9001 quality system
