Job Description: Asphalt Laboratory Technician

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Asphalt Laboratory Technician to support our expanding operations, particularly in Calgary. Currently, our capacity is limited due to internal promotions and specialized staff in Edmonton and Toronto. The supervisor in Calgary is handling additional responsibilities temporarily, which poses a risk given the incoming workload from Vancouver Airport Authority in Richmond.

Job Duties

1. Perform high and advanced complexity asphalt materials testing
2. Conduct Marshall and Superpave Mix Design testing
3. Ensure Marshall and Superpave Mix Compliance testing
4. Perform calibrations and routine repairs of laboratory equipment

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

• At least 5 years of experience as a laboratory technician specializing in asphalt testing, with independent and self-guided work experience in the last 2-3 years
• CCIL Certification or the ability to obtain it through experience and expertise
• Proficiency with Superpave and Marshall Methods for HMA and WMA testing
• Civil Engineering Diploma or Technology degree with materials knowledge
• Ability to work 12-16 hour days in a physically demanding environment
• Knowledge of City of Calgary/Vancouver and Transportation procedures related to asphalt specifications

Nice to Have:

• Over 5 years of experience exclusively in asphalt
• CCIL Certification

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $31.00 - $39.00/hr.
