Job summary

Hall & Larocque LLP, a Winnipeg-based Indigenous-owned law firm, seeks one to two Articling Students for 2027-2028. The role supports lawyers in Manitoba across Indigenous rights, governance, corporate, commercial, and real estate matters.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor degree required.
  • Eligible to take CPLED course.
  • Interest in Indigenous rights, development, and governance.

Responsibilities

  • Support lawyers in Indigenous governance, law/policy development, and financing.
  • Assist drafting Government-to-Government and procurement agreements.
  • Contribute to due diligence and negotiations on commercial real estate and corporate matters.
  • Draft a variety of legal documents and conduct relied-upon research.
  • Maintain organized case files and client communications.

We are seeking one to two Articling Students for 2027-2028.

The Role

Our Articling Student will work in our Winnipeg office supporting our lawyers and clients in Manitoba. The successful applicant will have access to resources and mentorship from the firm’s senior lawyers. A demonstrated interest in the following areas is important:

The Work
Indigenous Governments
  • Support lawyers in providing legal counsel and support to Indigenous governments in areas including governance, law/policy development, and financing.
  • Assist lawyers in the negotiation and drafting of Government-to-Government Agreements.
  • Assist lawyers in guiding clients through the consultation and accommodation process, ensuring their voices are heard in major projects.
Indigenous Businesses
  • Support lawyers advising Indigenous businesses on corporate organization, governance, and policy development.
  • Assist lawyers in providing comprehensive guidance on procurement processes, compliance, and dispute resolution.
  • Assist lawyers in negotiations and drafting of commercial agreements, ensuring the protection of Indigenous business interests.
Commercial Real Estate
  • Conduct due diligence for commercial real estate transactions.
  • Support negotiations for acquisitions, dispositions, and leases in commercial real estate.
  • Draft commercial lease agreements.
  • Support lawyers regarding land development projects.
  • Assist lawyers in financing transactions related to commercial real estate ventures.
Private Businesses and Entrepreneurs
  • Assist lawyers in providing support for start-ups and high-growth businesses, assisting with incorporations, corporate organization and reorganization, and corporate transactions.
  • Provide support for equity and debt financing deals, including with regard to securities regulatory compliance.
  • Draft commercial agreements in various industries.
  • Research legal matters related to regulatory compliance in various industries.
General Support
  • Draft a variety of legal documents, contracts, and agreements.
  • Conduct legal research to stay updated on relevant laws and regulations, and contribute to articles and blog posts.
  • Maintain accurate and organized case files through practice and corporate records management software.
Client Communication
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.
  • Communicate complex legal concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor degree
  • Eligible to take CPLED course
Compensation
  • $55,000 per annum

  • CPLED costs
