Job summary

Edmonton Oilers is seeking an Arena Technician to oversee the maintenance and operation of the Field of Play and mechanical systems at Rogers Place. The role reports to the Supervisors of Ice Operations and Engineering and covers ice, dasher boards, acrylic, spectator netting, and related mechanical systems.

Responsibilities include maintaining the ice surface to high standards, logging readings, and operating equipment such as Zambonis and forklifts.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in Field of Play Operations or mechanical work.
• Valid Alberta Power Engineer certificate required.
• High School or Technical School diploma.
• Experience with facility operation preferred.
• Ability to read mechanical and electrical blueprints/schematics.
• Experience with ice resurfacing equipment preferred.
• Knowledge of building codes, fire and health regulations, OH&S.

Job description

The Arena Technician is responsible for the maintenance and operation of all aspects of Field of Play and mechanical systems for Rogers Place. Reporting to the Supervisor, Ice Operations and the Supervisor, Engineering, the Arena Technician has responsibility for all Field of Play components including but not limited to Ice, Dasher Boards, Acrylic, Spectator Netting, Goal Frames, Ice Edgers, and Zambonis and mechanical systems including but not limited to HVAC and refrigeration.

Core Responsibilities and Duties:

• Install and maintain the ice surface to high standards according to Rogers Place plan
• Record and maintain accurate readings and log books
• Maintain Refrigeration, HVAC and other mechanical systems includingcorrective and preventative maintenance
• Maintain all “Field of Play” components
• Maintain Ice Resurfacers and Edgers
• Operate equipment such as Zambonis, forklifts, bobcats, floor scrubbers, etc.
• Contribute to a positive environment within the department, and acollaborative approach to interaction with various internal and externalstakeholders
• Other duties as assigned

Education, Experience and Skills:

• 5+ years in Field of Play Operations or mechanical experience will beconsidered an extreme asset
• Valid Province of Alberta, or Inter-provincial Fifth Class or higher PowerEngineer’s certificate is a requirement
• High School or Technical School diploma or combination of education andexperience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
• Demonstrated knowledge of facility operation is preferred
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical blueprints andschematics
• Experience with operation and maintenance of ice resurfacing machines ispreferred
• Knowledgeable in all regulations such as building codes, fire and healthdepartment regulations, OH&S, etc.
• Functional knowledge of facility maintenance including but not limited to icemaintenance/operation, electrical systems, centrifugal chillers, HVACsystems, steam, ammonia refrigeration, plumbing systems and equipment controlsystems
