Arena Attendant (Part Time)

What qualifications are we looking for?

At YMCA Calgary we strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following:

  1. Proven teambuilding skills
  2. Able to work shift work
  3. Experience working in an Arena environment
  4. 5th class ABSA Building Operator Certificate an asset
  5. Good member service skills
  6. Arena Operations Level 1 and 2 Certification or working towards Certificates
  7. Safety in the Workplace certificate and/or experience
  8. Preventative maintenance experience
  9. Must have a valid drivers’ license
  10. Physically fit and able to lift and move objects 50lbs or greater
  11. WHMIS Certification
  12. Police Security Check and Vulnerable Sector search mandatory
  13. Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certificated within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider. Asset if certification is issued by one of the following five Canadian organizations: Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John's Ambulance and/or Canadian Ski Patrol.
  14. Three professional references.
  15. Own transportation required.

What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  1. Operates the Ice Resurfacer in a safe manner as per SOP’s while completing scheduled floods.
  2. Monitor the refrigeration plant to ensure the operations right parameter that includes the refrigerant alarm system.
  3. Ensures quality ice resurfacing to accommodate various on ice activities by installing, removing, marking and maintaining the ice surface.
  4. Checks ice-making equipment, machinery and supplies.
  5. Monitors arenas to ensure rental clients adhere to the scheduled ice times and are acting appropriately within the arena dressing rooms.
  6. Provides quality customer service to a wide variety of arena users by aiding with concerns and questions.
  7. Assists with checking the condition of the boards, ice thickness, glass, netting and areas in the arena during weekly ice maintenance times and make repairs as necessary.
  8. Assists with completion of regular ice maintenance checks prior to each operation of the ice edger and Olympia.
  9. Participates in arena shutdowns and other facility shutdowns.
  10. Inventories and checks ice-making equipment, ice quality, machinery, supplies and general upkeep of the arena facilities.
  11. Perform housekeeping duties throughout the Arena.
  12. Take mechanical readings as per Standard Operating Procedures.
  13. Monitors arena performance in observance with Occupational Health and Safety Standards.
  14. Develops preventative measures to ensure optimal operation of the arena.
  15. Works toward improving operations, decrease arena closure time, streamline work processes and work cooperatively with the Facility Rentals and Booking Coordinator and Programs staff to provide quality customer service.
  16. Monitors ice quality and the general upkeep of the arena facilities to ensure they are maintained to a high-quality standard.
  17. For cross training in building operations and swimming pool operations, employee must acquire an ABSA 5th class and pool operator certifications.
  18. Assist in the overall needs of the facility operations throughout the Facility, both inside the building and outside.
  19. Part of the on-call rotation for the Seton and South Health Campus, Remington and Child Development Center YMCA’s.
  20. All YMCA Facility Asset staff will be cross trained to be able to work at all Y locations as required.
  21. Other duties as assigned.
