Heidelberg Materials has a current job opening for an Area Operations Manager working primarily out of our Ottawa, Ontario Office.

Position Overview

The Sr Area Operations Manager provides hands-on leadership across multiple ready-mix operations in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec, overseeing production, maintenance, logistics, safety, employee performance, and customer service. This role requires a visible, people-focused leader who can drive operational excellence, support employee development, and ensure safe and efficient operations across a multi-site environment.

What You'll Be Doing

• Provide hands-on, day-to-day leadership to direct reports, batch plant operators, and drivers, ensuring operational priorities and performance expectations are met.
• Oversee production activities, maintenance programs, and heavy equipment management to support safe, efficient, and reliable operations.
• Interview and support the selection and onboarding of drivers and other operational employees in partnership with Human Resources.
• Manage employee performance and conduct matters, including coaching, documentation, corrective action, and discipline, in accordance with company policies and applicable requirements.
• Champion safety, environmental compliance, and continuous improvement through regular field presence, clear communication, and consistent follow-up.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize production, logistics, staffing, service delivery, budgets, resources, and performance metrics while building a culture of accountability, engagement, and development.

What Are We Looking For

• Must be fully bilingual (English/French) to support operations across provinces.
• Demonstrated hands-on leadership experience in ready-mix concrete operations, coaching, developing, and managing employee performance.
• Strong analytical, communication, troubleshooting, and decision-making capabilities, with working knowledge of operational equipment, maintenance, and mechanical processes.
• Ability to lead change, reinforce accountability, develop bench strength, and drive performance in a dynamic operating environment.
• Familiarity with regional regulations and industry best practices.
• Aggregate operations experience and SAP experience are considered assets.
• Experience managing multi-site operations and balancing priorities across multiple locations; experience in a unionized environment is strongly preferred.

Work Environment
