Job summary

Populous in Montreal is seeking an Architectural Designer II to support conceptual development and the creation of drawings and design materials for public assembly buildings, including sports venues, convention centers, and transportation facilities.

You will develop design solutions from master planning through construction documents, assist in creating diagrams, digital models, and visuals, and contribute to project presentations and critiques under experienced designers.

Qualifications

• Professional degree in architecture and 0–3 years of experience.
• Fluency in English and French required.
• Ability to design conceptually and communicate ideas clearly.

Responsibilities

• Support design solutions from master planning to construction documents.
• Create conceptual drawings, diagrams, digital models and visuals to support ideas.
• Produce diagrams, digital models and production materials to industry standards.
• Contribute to construction details per project specs.
• Prepare presentation materials and assist in design presentations.
• Participate in critiques to refine early-phase concepts.
• Coordinate project documents and models under guidance of senior staff.
• Research precedents, materials and design solutions to enhance outcomes.

Who We Are Looking For:

We’re looking for an Architectural Designer with 3-6 years of experience to support the conceptual development and creation of drawings and design materials for a diverse range of public assembly building types including sports venues, convention centers, community buildings and transportation facilities.

What Your Day Could Consist Of:

• Supporting the development of design solutions from master planning and concept design through to construction documents.
• Assisting in the creation of conceptual drawings, diagrams, digital models and visual imagery to support design ideas.
• Producing diagrams, digital models, and other production materials according to industry standards and technical requirements.
• Contributing to the preparation of construction details in accordance with project specifications.
• Preparing presentation materials and contributing to project interviews and design presentations.
• Participating in collaborative critiques to help refine early-phase design concepts.
• Under the guidance of experienced designers and consultants, assisting in coordinating project documents and models.
• Conducting research on precedents, materials and design solutions to inform project development and enhance project outcomes.

Requirements For Success:

• Proven skill in creative and innovative design thinking, collaborative problem-solving, architectural production, spatial and environmental design, story development and delivering exceptional design solutions.
• Understanding of architectural design and construction principles, with a willingness to grow knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly and accurately share design ideas.
• Strong sketching and freehand drawing skills, capable of producing quick and impactful sketches to effectively communicate and sell design concepts.
• Familiarity with Revit, Bluebeam and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
• Working knowledge of 3D modeling software such as 3DS Max, SketchUp and Maxwell Render.
• Highly self-motivated and capable of thriving in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and within a collaborative team.

Essential Qualifications:

Required:

• Professional Degree in Architecture (B. Arch or M. Arch) from an accredited program.
• 0-3 years of professional architecture experience.
• Must be fluent in both English and French.

Preferred:

• Master’s degree in architecture is preferred.

Additional Details:

• Travel may be required
