Job summary

Zynga is seeking a Senior FinOps Engineer to lead the FinOps team in Toronto, guiding cost optimization across AWS, data tooling, and vendor software for our mobile games. You will mentor software and cloud engineers, design data pipelines, and partner with product, engineering, and finance to drive cost efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Math, or engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of hands-on cloud infrastructure (AWS) experience.
  • 8+ years of software development experience (Python preferred).
  • Experience mentoring engineers and leading cross-team projects.
  • Strong ability to design data pipelines and SQL data models.
  • Experience with IaC and CI pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the FinOps team and mentor engineers.
  • Identify and implement cloud cost-saving opportunities.

Position Overview:

Come join our team at Zynga making an impact across all of the company’s games - Mobile Game Tech (MGT). Lead the FinOps team by setting technical direction, crafting and implementing backend services for our games. We’re looking for outstanding engineers with a passion for technology and the desire to work in a team with dynamic strengths. This unique position will challenge you to tackle situations across a broad set of technical stacks, to soak up internal business logic from all kinds of teams, and to drive cost efficiency improvements across the organization. This FinOps team expands beyond just AWS and GCP and investigates cost optimization and unit economics for a variety of technology vendors.

What You’ll Do:
  • Lead all technical aspects of the FinOps team’s software development and data analysis, including mentorship of software and cloud engineers
  • Stay up-to-date on changes within Cloud Hosting Providers (AWS) and other vendor software (Unity, Splunk, Datadog, Jetbrains, etc) to identify new cost savings opportunities for the organization
  • Propose and design new FinOps tooling using a wide array of patterns: Data Pipeline, API, Cron jobs, Slack bot, UI, SQL, NoSQL, Tableau
  • Assist Product Management with prioritizing endeavors based upon organization impact, estimated cost reduction, and level of effort
  • Assist Data Analysts with designing SQL tables and using Tableau effectively for accurate data analysis
  • Coordinate with team members across the enterprise to ensure cost optimization and cost transparency initiatives are effective and valuable
  • Partner with engineering, finance, and business teams to resolve ad hoc FinOps inquiries, provide actionable insights, and drive data-informed cost optimization decisions.
  • Serve as a technical advisor to internal customers and stakeholders, addressing complex FinOps-related questions and providing guidance on cloud cost optimization, architecture decisions, and best practices.
What You Bring:
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Math, Statistics, Engineering, or other quantitative field (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience serving as a technical leader in an enterprise (collaboration with 50+ teams)
  • Experience collaborating with customers across many teams and levels within an enterprise
  • Experience serving as a mentor to other engineers
  • Experience leading projects from the ground up, breaking work into logical components, and delegating tasks
  • 8+ years of hands‑on experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS)
  • 8+ years of hands‑on experience with software programming (preferably Python)
  • Hands‑on experience with SQL tables and SQL queries
  • Hands‑on experience developing APIs, UIs, and data pipelines
  • Hands‑on experience with infrastructure-as-code and continuous integration testing
Bonus Points:
  • Previous experience with FinOps practices and cost management analysis

The pay range for this position in Toronto at the start of employment is expected to be between $156,140 and $206,140 CAD per Year. However, base pay offered is based on market location, and may vary further depending on individualized factors for job candidates, such as job‑related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations.

Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a bonus and/or equity awards and eligibility to participate in our 401(K) plan and Employee Stock Purchase Program.Regular, full‑time employees are also eligible for a range of benefits at the Company, including: medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance coverage; 14 paid holidays per calendar year; paid vacation time per calendar year (ranging from 15 to 25 days) or eligibility to participate in the Company’s discretionary time off program; up to 10 paid sick days per calendar year; paid parental and compassionate leave; wellbeing programs for mental health and other wellness support; family planning support through Maven; commuter benefits; and reimbursements for fitness‑related expenses.Ontario only: The use of Artificial Intelligence is not being used to screen candidates.
