Job summary

Davey Tree Expert Co. of Canada, Limited is seeking a Climbing Arborist for field canopy tree and vegetation management. You will work directly with the public and apply expert knowledge to ensure tasks are completed safely and on time.

This full-time, year-round role offers hands-on training, excellent benefits, RRSP/TFSA, and opportunities for advancement as you gain certifications and experience in pruning, cabling, and related arboricultural work.

Qualifications

• Understanding and execution of safely ascending tree canopies at all heights.
• Minimum 1 year of climbing experience.
• Certified Arborist or willingness to work towards.
• Strong tree, knot and shrub identification skills.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Valid provincial driver’s license; license to drive a 5-ton vehicle and Airbrake endorsement considered an asset.
• Forestry, horticulture or landscaping background preferred.

Responsibilities

• Pruning, thinning, and removing deadwood in the canopy of trees at various heights.
• Installation of cables, bracing and lightning protection systems.
• Maintain, prepare, and operate tools including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts and more.
• Assist the trimmers and foreperson in job site setup, debris removal and cleanup.
• Abide by safety policies and procedures.

Position Overview

As a Climbing Arborist with Davey Tree; you will be in the field and up in the canopy most of your day with a hands-on approach to tree and vegetation management. You will deal directly with the public and will draw on your expert knowledge and experience to ensure the job is done right and on time.

Job Duties

• Pruning, thinning, and removing deadwood in the canopy of the trees at various heights.
• Installation of cables, bracing and lightning protection systems.
• Properly maintain, prepare, and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts and more.
• Assist the trimmers and foreperson in job site setup, debris removal and cleanup.
• Abide by Davey and industry safety policies and procedures.

• Certified Arborist or willingness to work towards.

Additional Information

• Full time. Year-round employment.
• $21-$27/hour. Wage will be determined based on education, experience, and relevant qualifications or certifications. Certified arborists may be paid outside the pay range indicated.
