YMCA of Southern Interior BC in Kelowna is seeking an Aquatic Supervisor to lead lifeguards and instructors, support program delivery, and ensure safe, welcoming aquatic spaces for members.

Reporting to the Aquatics Manager, you will guide a large team, coordinate programs and facility bookings, and respond to aquatic emergencies while maintaining high standards of safety and customer service. This is a full-time role requiring flexible scheduling including days, evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

  • YMCA Swim Instructor certification or Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification.
  • National Lifeguard Certification (Pool Option) required.
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C and AMOA certifications.
  • Maintain all required certifications throughout employment.

Reporting to the Aquatic Manager, the Aquatic Supervisor is a key leadership position within the Aquatics Department, responsible for supporting the daily operation of aquatic programs, supervising staff, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment, and helping deliver high-quality aquatic experiences for YMCA members and program participants.

This role provides leadership and guidance to a large team of lifeguards and instructors while supporting program delivery, staff development, facility operations, and emergency response. The Aquatic Supervisor plays an important role in fostering a culture of safety, inclusiveness, and service excellence aligned with YMCA values.

What You Will Do

Provide leadership, direction, and support to lifeguards, swim instructors, and aquatic staff while promoting YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and inclusiveness.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervise and support the daily operation of aquatic programs and services.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to lifeguard and instructional staff.
  • Assist the Aquatic Manager with the delivery of aquatic instructional and recreational programs.
  • Monitor the safety, cleanliness, and maintenance of pool decks, change rooms, and associated aquatic spaces.
  • Coordinate pool setups and ensure facilities are prepared for scheduled activities and programs.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and deliver Swim Lessons, First Aid courses, and advanced aquatic certifications as required.
  • Administer group bookings, facility rentals, and school swim lesson programs.
  • Respond as the lead during aquatic emergencies and critical incidents.
  • Ensure first aid supplies, emergency equipment, and program equipment remain operational and well maintained.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and address operational concerns.
  • Build positive relationships with members, participants, community partners, and staff.
  • Support staff scheduling, coaching, development, and performance expectations.
  • Ensure all required certifications and qualifications remain current and compliant.

Experience & Skills
  • Experience leading and supervising aquatic staff in a recreation or community environment.

  • Experience coordinating aquatic programs, lessons, and facility bookings.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Strong customer service focus and commitment to creating exceptional member experiences.
