Job summary

The District of Kent is hiring a Part Time Aquatic Leader to support supervision of staff for aquatics programs and ensure a safe, engaging aquatic experience in the new Lets’emó:t Regional Recreation & Aquatic Centre.

You will assist with staff training, scheduling, risk management, water chemistry, and on-deck instruction, reporting to the Aquatic Coordinator. Wage begins at $33.14/hour per the collective agreement.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 diploma or proven equivalent required.
• National Lifeguard NL Pool Option certification required.
• Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor certificate required.
• Lifesaving Instructor/Examiners certificate required.
• Standard First Aid with CPR C and AED required.
• Pool Operator Certification preferred.
• NL Instructor or Lifesaving Society Trainer certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist supervision of staff delivering aquatics programs.
• Provide ongoing training opportunities for lifeguards and instructors.
• Assist with scheduling, risk management, and water chemistry tasks.
• On-deck instruction and modelling high standard guarding behaviors.

The District of Kent, located in the picturesque Eastern Fraser Valley, is offering several exciting opportunities in our Recreation, Culture & Projects Department.

With the Grand Opening (September 2026) of the Lets’emó:t Regional Recreation & Aquatic Centre(LRRAC), we are looking to assemble a dynamic team to deliver exceptional services to our region. This amazing new facility expands our existing recreation centre and features an 8-lane pool, lazy river, steamroom, sauna, and hot tub.

We are seeking a positive, energetic, self-motivated, and team-oriented Part Time Aquatic Leader to join us.

Reporting to the Aquatic Coordinator, you will be responsible for assisting with the supervision of qualified staff for the delivery of aquatics programs; providing on-going training opportunities for staff involved with the aquatics programs; assisting in scheduling and evaluating Lifeguards and Aquatics Instructors; assisting with risk management, maintenance, and water chemistry tasks; performing on deck instruction and lifeguarding modelling high standard guarding behaviors; assisting with administrative duties; liaising with other Recreation/Culture staff to create a safe and engaging aquatic experience for participants; and providing recommendations to supervisors.

• Grade 12 Diploma or proven equivalent.
• Minimum of three (3) years of aquatic experience.
• National Lifeguard (NL) - Pool Option.
• Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Certificate.
• Lifesaving Instructor/Examiners Certificate.
• Standard First Aid with CPR Level C and AED.
• Pool Operator Certification.
• Preferred: National Lifeguard (NL) Instructor and/or Lifesaving Society Trainer Certificate.

Pay and benefits for this bargaining unit position will be in accordance with the Collective Agreement, CUPE Local 458. The 2025 post-probationary wage rate for this position is $33.14/hour. This part-time position may also include extended health benefits and participation in the Municipal Pension Plan (MPP), in accordance with the policies of the benefits provider and the MPP.
