CESSCO Fabrication and Engineering Ltd. is hiring a full-time Apprentice Welder in Edmonton, AB, to join us at our pressure vessel fabrication shop.The Apprentice Welder must be enrolled in a recognized, minimum two-year, welder apprenticeship program in their second or third year. They should have completed all necessary training requirements to have second- or third-year apprenticeship status and the necessary hours of on-the-job welding and fabrication experience for their apprenticeship level. They must continue to attend all required apprentice technical training, maintain an active apprenticeship registration, and continue progressing towards Journeyperson certification. Experience in a heavy industrial or pressure vessel fabrication environment, specifically, would be considered an asset.This role includes a responsibility to learn all the production processes used in our shop and follow all of our safety practices and internal standards for quality and productivity. The Apprentice Welder must also have basic knowledge of the construction codes that govern their work. An ability to read, interpret, and follow drawings and documents like welding procedures and safety policies is required, and so is the ability to communicate effectively with clients, inspectors, and production team members, even sketching out basic images to illustrate explanations if necessary.They should be able to verify the correct welding consumables, fluxes, preheat requirements, welding parameters, and joint preparation prior to welding as well as ensure weld size, quality, identification, and required markings or stamping are applied to completed or partially completed welds. They must also properly use and maintain welding and fabrication equipment and tools.This is a heavy industrial work environment, and safety is extremely important. The Apprentice Welder must be able to follow all company safety procedures, immediately report unsafe conditions or equipment, and maintain a clean, organized work area, cooperating with Quality Control personnel and inspectors as required. This role is 40 hours per week with a $31.53 to $37.82 per hour wage.

Responsibilities
- Follow instructions and work assignments from Supervisors, Foremen, and assigned Journeyperson mentors.
- Perform welding and related fabrication work appropriate to the employee’s apprenticeship level, training, qualifications, and skills.
- Follow approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPSs), fabrication drawings, weld symbols, specifications, and applicable construction requirements.
- Confirm the correct welding consumables, fluxes, preheat requirements, welding settings, and joint preparation before starting work.
- Ensure completed and partially completed welds meet required size and quality standards and have the proper identification, markings, or stamps.
- Properly use and maintain welding machines, grinders, hand tools, measuring equipment, and other assigned equipment.
- Immediately report any issues with welding consumables, equipment, drawings, fit-up, weld quality, or fabrication requirements to the appropriate Supervisor or Journeyperson.
- Follow all company safety programs, procedures, and safe work practices, and immediately report unsafe conditions or defective equipment.
- Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe, and cooperate with Quality Control personnel and inspectors as required.
- Attend required apprenticeship technical training, maintain active apprenticeship registration, and continue working toward Journeyperson certification.
Qualifications
- Must be a registered Second- or Third-Year Welder Apprentice in a recognized apprenticeship program.
- Must be able to provide proof of current apprenticeship status and completed apprenticeship hours when requested.
- Previous experience in structural steel, pressure vessel, pressure equipment, or heavy industrial fabrication is preferred.
- Experience with SMAW and FCAW welding processes is preferred.
- CWB certification in SMAW and/or FCAW is an asset.
- Previous experience reading fabrication drawings and Welding Procedure Specifications (WPSs) is preferred.
- Must have a basic understanding of welding consumables, joint preparation, preheat requirements, weld symbols, welding parameters, and weld quality requirements.
- Must be willing and able to complete required apprenticeship technical training and all other requirements needed to progress toward Journeyperson certification.
- Additional welding qualifications may be required depending on the work assigned.
- Must confirm the correct consumables, preheat requirements, and other required information before starting any welding work.
- Ability to read and understand drawings and documents such as welding procedures, standards, specifications, and other fabrication requirements.
- Ability to understand and follow safety requirements and internal policies.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients, inspectors, and production team members.
- Ability to use basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to create basic sketches to communicate information to others.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions provided in writing, verbally, or through drawings.
- Ability to think and respond quickly in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to multitask and stay organized.
- Must have the manual dexterity required for the job and be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Must frequently climb stairs and ladders and bend, stoop, crawl, kneel, reach, and crouch.
- May occasionally work on ladders, scaffolding, or elevated structures.
- Must be able to lift and/or exert force between 10 and 50 pounds.
- Must frequently operate mobile equipment.
Education
- Currently registered as a Second- or Third-Year Welder Apprentice in a recognized apprenticeship program.
- Must have completed the required apprenticeship training to qualify as a Second- or Third-Year Apprentice.
- Previous welding and fabrication experience appropriate to the apprentice’s level.
- Experience in heavy industrial or pressure vessel fabrication is an asset.

Work Environment
- Work takes place in a heavy industrial environment.
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, with regular exposure to noise, dust, fumes, strong odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, moving objects, sharp edges, and varying weather and temperatures.
- Employees may be required to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in extreme temperatures.
- Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn and used at all times.
Working hours: 40–0 hours per week.
