Job summary

KP Building Products, a proud subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, is hiring an apprentice Machinist/Tool and Die Maker based in Acton. The role involves setting up and operating conventional and CNC machines, inspecting parts, and maintaining tooling in a collaborative manufacturing environment.

You will gain hands-on experience in machining, tooling, and assembly while contributing to quality and safety standards. This is an excellent entry path within a leading building materials company.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or current enrollment in Machinist/Tool & Die Maker apprenticeship program.
  • Co-op, apprentice or internship experience is an asset.
  • Basic knowledge of equipment assembly or factory automation systems.
  • Ability to communicate in English, both written and verbal, and apply basic math in manufacturing.
  • Physically capable of performing the duties.
  • Willingness to learn machining and assembly processes while maintaining quality and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, adjust, and operate conventional and CNC machine tools (lathes, milling machines, grinders, cutting equipment).
  • Machine parts to specifications ensuring quality, precision, and efficiency.
  • Measure and inspect finished parts using micrometers and vernier calipers to verify specs.
  • Monitor machine performance and adjust feeds, speeds, and cutting parameters as required.
  • Align, secure, and install tooling, fixtures, and attachments on production equipment.
  • Troubleshoot machining and equipment issues to minimize downtime.
  • Perform routine maintenance to keep tools and equipment in safe working order.
  • Collaborate with team members and maintain a clean, organized, safe work environment.

Schedule:

Day shift: Monday-Friday 8:00 am-4:30 pm

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set up, adjust, and operate conventional and CNC machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, grinders, and cutting equipment.
  • Machine parts to specifications while ensuring quality, precision, and efficiency.
  • Measure and inspect completed workpieces using precision instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers to verify compliance with specifications.
  • Monitor machine performance and machining processes, making adjustments to feeds, speeds, and cutting parameters as required.
  • Align, secure, and install tooling, fixtures, attachments, and materials on production equipment.
  • Troubleshoot machining and equipment issues, identifying and correcting problems to minimize downtime.
  • Perform routine maintenance and ensure machine tools and equipment remain in safe operating condition.
  • Collaborate with team members and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Is this job for you ?
  • High School Diploma or currently enrolled in, or recently completed, a General Machinist, Tool & Die Maker, or Machine Tool Builder and Integrator apprenticeship/training program.
  • Previous hands-on experience through co-op placements, apprenticeships, internships, or manufacturing environments is considered an asset.
  • Basic knowledge of equipment assembly, machine building, or factory automation systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal, and apply basic mathematical concepts in a manufacturing setting.
  • Physically capable of performing the essential duties of the position.
  • Eagerness to learn Tool & Die, machining, and assembly processes while maintaining quality and safety standards.
  • Familiarity with hand tools, precision measuring instruments, and toolroom equipment is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and commitment to continuous learning and development
