GFL Environmental is seeking an Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our Grande Prairie, AB team. You will learn to diagnose and repair modern CNG and diesel engines and heavy equipment. As an apprentice, you will work under experienced technicians, receive industry-leading wages and participate in our Benefits Program.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in, or completed, a pre-apprenticeship or technical training program.
• Valid Driver’s License required.
• Must provide basic tools and be willing to acquire more as you progress.

Responsabilités

• Diagnose and repair complex CNG and diesel engines, and advanced electrical and hydraulic systems.
• Perform repairs and preventive maintenance tasks such as PM and safety inspections.
• Complete required record keeping for parts usage, repair times and vehicle repair documentation.
• Review, plan and schedule work as required.
• Operate tools and equipment following safety procedures and maintain a safe work area.
• Maintain shop equipment in safe operating condition.

Our Mechanics safely operate, repair, and maintain GFL Environmental owned commercial diesel and alternative fuel trucks, and heavy equipment to ensure its ability to operate safely.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair complex, modern CNG and diesel engines, and advanced electrical and hydraulic systems.
• Perform repairs and preventive maintenance tasks such as PM and safety inspections.
• Complete required record keeping associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
• Review, plan and schedule work as required.
• Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to company safety procedures.
• Ensure shop equipment and tools are kept in a safe operating condition.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with company safety standards.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Education: Currently enrolled in or completed a pre-apprenticeship or technical training program.
• Licensing: Valid Driver’s License is required.
• Tools: Must provide your own basic tools and have a willingness to acquire more as you progress.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of tools required to perform repairs and maintenance on commercial vehicles and heavy equipment.
• Ability to follow schedules, instructions, technical manuals and maintenance guidelines, and other procedures associated with the maintenance of company fleet assets.
• Must be computer literate and willing and able to be trained in software systems.
• Ability to communicate effectively across various levels of the organization.
• Ability to be a self-starter capable of working effectively in a team environment or as an individual contributor.
• Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Working Conditions

The Technician must be able to work inside and/or outside in all different weather conditions including extreme cold and extreme heat.

Physical Demands

Physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

• Moderate walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, grasping/gripping, and pushing/pulling.
• Work utilizing personal protective equipment, including hearing protection, safety-toed boot, utility gloves, reflective vest, hearing and eye protection, hard hat, etc.
• Work outside and inside, around moving objects, vehicles, and machinery with moving parts.
• Physically able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, and push/pull up to 100 pounds.
