Job summary

Chase Contracting Ltd. in Surrey, BC seeks an Apprentice Carpenter to gain hands-on experience in concrete formwork for commercial and industrial projects.

You will work under experienced Carpenters, Foremen, and Site Supervisors to develop skills in formwork, safety, and efficient construction practices. The ideal candidate has 1–2 years of carpentry or construction experience; apprenticeship registration is helpful but not required.

Qualifications

  • Approximately one to two years of carpentry or construction experience preferred.
  • Registered Apprentice Carpenter status encouraged or equivalent early-career carpentry experience accepted.
  • Genuine interest in developing a long-term carpentry career.
  • Comfortable using basic hand and power tools.
  • Ability to follow drawings, instructions and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with constructing, installing, bracing, and stripping concrete formwork.
  • Follow construction drawings, project plans, and supervisor instructions.
  • Measure, mark, cut, drill, fasten, and assemble forming materials.
  • Assist with footings, foundations, walls, slabs, columns, and tilt-up panels.
  • Prepare work areas, tools, equipment, and materials for daily production.
  • Keep job sites safe, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Inspect tools and equipment before use and report damaged items.
  • Participate in safety orientations, toolbox talks, and team meetings.
  • Ask questions, accept coaching, and apply feedback.
  • Work collaboratively with Carpenters, Labourers, and site leadership.

Apprentice Carpenter - Concrete Formwork

Location: Surrey, BC. Work is performed on-site at projects throughout Surrey, Langley, Burnaby, and surrounding Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley communities.

We are looking for a reliable, career-minded Apprentice Carpenter who wants to develop strong, practical carpentry skills through hands-on experience. Working under experienced Carpenters, Foremen, and Site Supervisors, you will help complete formwork and general construction tasks while learning how to work safely, accurately, and efficiently.

The ideal candidate has approximately one to two years of carpentry or construction experience. Formal apprenticeship registration is helpful, but equivalent experience and a genuine commitment to developing a carpentry career will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with constructing, installing, bracing, and stripping concrete formwork

  • Clean, strip, and organize formwork components for reuse
  • Keep job sites safe, organized, and free of unnecessary hazards
  • Inspect tools and equipment before use and report damaged items
  • Participate in safety orientations, toolbox talks, and team meetings
  • Ask questions, accept coaching, and apply feedback
  • Work collaboratively with Carpenters, Labourers, and site leadership

Qualifications

  • Approximately one to two years of carpentry or construction experience preferred
  • Registered Apprentice Carpenters and candidates with equivalent early-career carpentry experience are encouraged to apply
  • Genuine interest in developing a long-term carpentry career
  • Comfortable using basic hand and power tools
  • Ability to follow drawings, instructions, and established procedures
  • Ability to perform the essential physical functions of the role, including lifting and carrying materials, frequent standing, bending, climbing, and working outdoors in changing weather conditions, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Dependable, punctual, hardworking, and open to instruction
  • Positive attitude and ability to work well as part of a crew
  • Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation to assigned jobsites are required because some project locations may not be accessible by public transit.

Pay and Benefits

  • Full-time, permanent position, averaging 40 hours per week
  • Pay: CA$25.00-$38.00 per hour, based on experience and apprenticeship level
