Job summary

Nokia in Ottawa is seeking an Optical Coherent firmware testing engineer to join a collaborative team. You will validate firmware features, develop test strategies, and automate tests using Python while supporting lab operations in the office several days per week.

Qualifications

  • Good understanding of Optical Coherent technologies (400G/800G) and firmware validation experience.
  • Typically 1–2 years directly related experience and a graduate equivalent degree.
  • Proficient in Python programming, knowledge of Python automation and test frameworks.
  • Knowledge on data center networking or telecom systems.
  • Concept of traffic generators, optical test equipment, and log analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Validate Optical Coherent firmware features and interoperability.
  • Develop and execute test strategies for CMIS‑compliant modules; conduct manual/auto testing for project use cases; investigate customer issues in the lab.
  • Automate testing processes on the PACE test platform using Python; analyze test reports to allocate firmware bug responsibilities.
  • Provide reliable on‑site support for the Optical Firmware SIT Ottawa lab; 3+ days/week in office/lab.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to streamline testing workflows and improve efficiency.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and technologies relevant to optical firmware testing.
  • Document test procedures and results for continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

Exciting opportunity to work on next-generation Optical Coherent Pluggable technologies powering high-speed Data Center and Telecom network. In this role, you will be immersed in a collaborative and innovative team environment at our Ottawa site, where you'll have hands‑on involvement with cutting‑edge optical firmware integration test for development release and customer issue support. You will work alongside skilled engineers who are passionate about technology and dedicated to solving complex challenges. Integration, Verification & Testing comprises the integration of software and/or hardware or system components into system, platform, product releases, or networks and verifies the integrated entity or network against particular requirements and specifications. Daily tasks will include both manual testing and automation using Python, allowing you to enhance your coding skills while applying your analytical abilities. The role covers setup and maintenance of laboratory and associated equipment, tools, and devices.

How You Will Contribute And What You Will Learn
  • Validation of Optical Coherent Pluggable firmware features and interoperability

  • Provide reliable on‑site support for the optical Firmware System Integration Test (SIT) Ottawa lab, including setup of test equipment and optical components. 3+ days/week is required in our office/lab.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to streamline testing workflows and improve efficiency.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and technologies relevant to optical firmware testing.
  • Document test procedures and results for continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

Knowledge & Experience

Good understanding of Optical Coherent technologies (400G/800G ZR/ZR+), and reasonable experience in Firmware Validation of Optical Coherent Modules (ZR/ZR+, DWDM, CMIS‑based pluggables).

  • Proficient in Python programming, knowledge of Python automation and test frameworks
  • Knowledge on data center networking or telecom systems
  • Concept of traffic generators, optical test equipment, and log analysis
