Job summary

Sobeys is actively seeking an Application Developer to join our technology team in Canada. You will design, build, and optimize Azure-based applications and microservices that power our digital platforms.

You will collaborate with DevOps and business stakeholders to implement new features, perform code reviews, and ensure scalable, secure, and cost-effective solutions across environments. The ideal candidate has an undergraduate degree and at least two years of hands-on experience with Java,

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
• Solid experience with SDLC methodologies including Agile/sprint processes.
• Experience in data migration/conversion design and development.
• Hands-on software troubleshooting experience.
• Proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, Spring Batch, REST API, XML and JSON.
• Strong SQL knowledge, preferably SQL Server, and HTTP protocols.
• Experience with server runtimes like JBoss/WildFly/TomEE/Tomcat and messaging (RabbitMQ).
• Familiarity with Windows/Linux/Solaris environments and build/tools like Maven, Gradle, Git, and CI/CD (Jenkins).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and enhance Azure-based applications and microservices.

• Conduct design and code reviews to ensure quality delivery.

• Provide Tier 2/3 production support of cloud applications and after-hours coverage when needed.
• Collaborate with DevOps and stakeholders to implement new features.
• Translate business requirements into technical specifications and solutions.
• Document functional, technical, and operational aspects for delivery.

As An Application Developer With Sobeys, You Will

• Design, develop, and enhance Azure-based applications and microservices to support platform functionality.
• Build and maintain seamless integrations with third-party systems and APIs.
• Conduct design and code reviews to ensure the solution delivered conforms to IT and team standards and quality software delivery practices.
• Create unit test plans with detailed test cases.
• Provide accurate estimates from analysis and design specifications for yourself and other team members to work on.
• Ensure application scalability, performance, and cost-effectiveness by optimizing Azure resources.
• Ensure solutions align with security and compliance standards.
• Write clean, maintainable, and testable code following best practices.
• Address and resolve bugs and performance issues promptly to ensure system reliability.
• Resolve problems with increasingly less supervision.
• Maintain application performance and availability to support system uptime.
• Provide Tier 2 or Tier 3 production support of cloud applications
• Support the application outside business hours in case of critical issues.
• Work closely with DevOps, business stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to implement new features and improvements.
• Support analyst in converting business requirements into technical specifications and solutions.
• Capture and define technical and operational requirements for solutions.
• Ensure the development of detailed functional, technical and operational specifications for delivery of recommended solutions.
• Ensure all documentation is created, up to date and correct before solutions or changes are implemented into production.
• Provide user, operational and system documentation for implementation.

What You Have To Offer

• An Undergraduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
• Solid experience with SDLC methodologies – including agile/sprint processes
• Solid experience in performing data migration/conversion design and development
• Hands-on software troubleshooting experience
• At least 2 years of good knowledge of the following technologies:
• Java, Spring Boot, Spring Batch, Rest API, XML, JSON
• SQL – SQL Server specific knowledge preferable.
• XML related technologies and frameworks
• HTTP and related protocols.
• JBoss, Wildfly, TomEE (preferred), Tomcat, RabbitMQ, Apache servers
• Windows Server, Solaris, HP UX, Linux (any one)
• Good knowledge in using Tools like Maven Gradle, git, Jenkins pipeline, JIRA and Junit

Good to have experience in Digital Asset Management with proficiency in following areas:

• Functional Knowledge of Digital Asset Management, Asset ingestions, system integrations
• Maintenance and housekeeping activities in DAM environment.
• Configuration settings on OTMM (Metadata, security, Policy, User, Advanced Search etc.)
• Customizations on OTMM and associated application servers.
• Operating with MS SQL Server, database maintenance and administration.
