Your role and responsibilities

An Application Architect manages the overall application system, ensuring seamless component interactions. This role involves establishing technology standards, translating business objectives into technical solutions, and selecting appropriate products, vendors, and methodologies.

The Architect should be proficient in technologies such as C/C++, Python, and familiar with architectural patterns. They should also be capable of consulting clients on strategies and roadmaps, supporting application performance, availability, scalability, and maintaining functional interfaces to infrastructure. The role requires experience working across multiple environments and a strong understanding of architectural principles.

Responsibilities:

• Lead cross-functional teams in developing custom solutions and mentoring junior developers
• Collaborate closely with client teams and other vendors
• Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
• Implement security best practices (ISO 26262, IEC 62443, NIST 800-53, ITSG-33) and secure data transmission and storage
• Prioritize tasks with a strong initiative

This position involves working with technology subject to Export Regulations sanctions. To qualify, you must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident, with additional nationality restrictions for dual or third-nationalities from specified countries.

Required technical and professional expertise

• Located in Ottawa, ON (on-site work required)
• Experience in the Defence Industry
• Low-level programming and embedded systems (C/C++, Python, memory management, microcontrollers, device drivers, firmware, message protocols, system engineering)
• Networking and communication protocols (UART, RS-232, RS-485, Modbus, MIL-STD-1553B), and custom messaging formats
• Experience with real-time operating systems like embedded Linux, multi-threaded applications, and debugging
• Knowledge of system architecture, heterogeneous hardware integration, data serialization, and security in embedded systems
• Middleware development (API gateways, event brokers, service mesh)
• User interface programming (JavaScript/TypeScript, Angular, React, Node.js)

Note: Candidates must have or be eligible for Secret Clearance issued by the Government of Canada. Clearance processing may take up to 6 months for Canadian citizens. NATO and Controlled Goods Clearances will be required upon obtaining Secret clearance.
