Job summary

Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in Government is seeking Farm Labourers for the TH Farm in Dawson City, Yukon. Two positions available, immediate start, with an on-call auxiliary schedule and an end date of October 31, 2026.

Under the Farm Manager, duties range from tilling and planting to livestock care, maintenance, and basic sales. A detailed job description is available on request, with eligibility lasting up to 12 months.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of gardening and farming practices.
• Basic knowledge or willingness to learn the process of raising animals for food.
• Knowledge or willingness to learn acceptable food storage and preservation standards.
• Experience with basic general maintenance.
• Experience in using hand and electrical tools.
• Experience with or willingness to learn driving various vehicles and current safety certificates.
• Experience with or willingness to learn basic bookkeeping sales, retail and marketing.
• Ability to work in strenuous positions such as kneeling, crouching, and repetitive movements.

Responsibilities

• Reporting to the Farm Manager, perform a variety of duties depending on seasonal operation (tilling, shoveling, planting, weeding, feeding livestock, harvest, inventory, cleaning).
• Assist in sales of TH Farm products as required.
• Help in basic carpentry, supplies pickup and delivery, and general maintenance assistance.

End Date: October 31, 2026

Salary: Level 1 Step 1 ($25.66 hourly)

Reporting to the Farm Manager, the Farm Labourer is responsible for a variety of duties depending on the seasonal operation of the TH Farm. These duties may include but are not limited to: tilling, shoveling, planting, weeding, feeding livestock, harvest, inventory, cleaning, organizing and other general labour duties such as basic carpentry, supplies pick-up and delivery and basic general maintenance assistance identified by the Farm Manager. This position may also assist in the sales of TH Farm products as required.

The TH Farm continues to build knowledge on northern growing and development of food security options through the incorporation of: traditional crops; non-traditional / staple food crops; medicinal herbs, plants, shrubs; animal husbandry; commercial products; and a year-round greenhouse. This year-round farm operation promotes the production of a fresh and sustainable source of food for community members.

An Eligibility List may be established from this competition – the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time, permanent part-time, temporary full-time, temporary part-time, term, or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires.

Essential Qualifications:

• Basic knowledge of gardening and/or farming practices.
• Basic knowledge or willingness to learn the process of raising animals for food.
• Knowledge or willingness to learn acceptable food storage and preservation standards.
• Experience with basic general maintenance.
• Experience in using hand and electrical tools.
• Experience with or willingness to learn driving various vehicles and current safety certificates. (ATVs, boats, trailers, tractors, etc.).
• Experience with or willingness to learn basic bookkeeping sales, retail and marketing.
• Ability to work in strenuous positions such as kneeling, crouching, and repetitive movements.

Conditions of Employment:

• Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
• Class 5 Driver’s License with clear driver’s abstract an asset but not required.
• Standard First Aid, or willingness to obtain.
• Bear Aware, ATV Safety, Chainsaw Safety, or willingness to obtain.
• TH 101 Cultural Awareness Training.
