Northern Health is seeking an Anesthesiologist for Fort St John, British Columbia, a vibrant city with a young and growing population! We welcome candidates who are interested in establishing and running a Pain Clinic.

Fort St. John Hospital is a new state-of-the-art 55 bed hospital serving a population of approximately 23,000, and is one of two hospitals serving a catchment area of approximately 70,000. The facility offers services including diagnostics, surgery, acute care, ICU, maternity, a community cancer centre, community hemodialysis, visiting specialists clinic, and a prenatal clinic.

Local specialists include General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, General Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, Radiology and Pathology. Visiting specialists include Ophthalmology, ENT, and Neurology.

Fort St. John is known as “The Energetic City” and is located at Mile 47 of the world famous Alaska Highway in Northeastern BC! The city has numerous restaurants, cafés, and a health food store. It is the cultural and commercial hub of the Northeast, with a performing and visual arts centre, library, art gallery and theatre. Large concerts are hosted at the state-of-the-art Ovintiv Events Centre in Dawson Creek, only an hour's drive from Fort St. John.

Recreational opportunities in the Fort St. John area include speed-skating (on one of only four indoor Olympic-sized, long-track speed skating ovals in North America!), indoor walking track, indoor soccer, golf, tennis, yoga, dance, mountain biking, walking trails, hiking, boating, kayaking, swimming, fishing, hunting, camping, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, curling, and hockey. Our airport offers numerous daily flights to Vancouver and Calgary on Air Canada and WestJet.

Fort St. John has seven elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school, and one private school (Kindergarten to Grade 12). Northern Lights College and the University of Northern British Columbia provide post-secondary education in Fort St John.

Benefits and Incentives

Vacation Leave Regular/negotiable May be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA) including: Retention Premium 21.70% Retention Flat Fee $33,629 Relocation Funding Available $9,000 - $15,000 (TBD) Recruitment Incentive $20,000 Other Benefits/Incentives Rural Continuing Medical Education (RCME) available. Rural Education Action Plan (REAP) available. Moving allowance available (no receipts required): $15,000 if moving from outside of Canada; $12,000 if moving within Canada but outside of BC; $9,000 if moving within BC. Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA) funding is subject to change without notice.
