About The Role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular Full-Time Analyst - Systems II to join our dynamic IT Internal Customer Experience team in Ottawa, Ontario.

The IT Internal Customer Experience team is responsible for managing the delivery and operation of IT services related to employee experience and productivity, blood operations, data & analytics and optimization, making IT more effective, reliable and consistent.

In this role, you will be focused on data engineering projects using your knowledge of data extraction, transformation, and loading skills. You will apply systems thinking (i.e. the intersection of data, technology and people) to resolve or improve complex business challenges and opportunities.

Formula for success

  • Deploying your proficiency in data acquisition and cleansing, you will create and manage data pipelines to drive business insights and efficiencies.
  • Drawing upon your skills in data analysis and development, you will design and develop analytical models to deliver BI solutions according to customer requirements.
  • Employing your collaborative abilities, you will collaborate with team members on multiple BI initiatives, providing support throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Applying your commitment to data quality, you will ensure the accuracy, reliability, and quality of data collected and analyzed.
  • Utilizing your expertise in source code management, you will complete source code deployments in all environments (Dev, QA, and Production).
  • Exercising your monitoring and optimization skills, you will monitor published BI content and usage to ensure consistency, privacy, and performance.
  • Harnessing your knowledge and expertise in user support, you will provide end user support by addressing queries and issues effectively.


Desired Education And Skills

  • Degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably a University Degree in computer science, computer engineering or related field; an equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Three to five years of data integration, data transformation, and data pipelines. Experience working in an Analytics/Data Warehouse environment.
  • Proven experience developing and optimizing ETL pipelines in Azure Synapse Analytics, Microsoft Fabric, or other cloud-based data platforms.
  • Advanced knowledge of analytical data models including star and snowflake schemas. Advanced proficiency in SQL and T-SQL, including query optimization and complex transformations.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Fabric including Power BI, DAX, M Query, Direct Lake, Dataflows, and Dataset integration.
  • Familiarity with automation tools such as PowerShell, Azure CLI, and Jenkins.
  • Programming skills using Python, PySpark, R, SAS, SPSS, and background in developing APIs.
  • Hands-on experience with GIT-based CI/CD pipelines for automating deployment and version control
  • Experience with the following technologies is an asset: AI or machine learning, SAPBW, Google Analytics.
  • Team player with experience collaborating with BI developers, data scientists, and IT or business stakeholders.

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at 2540 Lancaster Road, Ottawa, Ontario, at least 40% of the time/2 days of the week.
  • You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.
