Job summary

Staples Canada is seeking an accounting-focused professional to review POS and OMS transaction data for accuracy and reconcile daily totals. You will balance cash registers and store days, report variances, and coordinate with IT to recover missing transactions.

The role includes auditing cash deposits, electronic tenders, and gift card programs across retail, B2B, and corporate orders, with collaboration across external banks and Staples issuers. Hybrid work in Richmond Hill is provided.

Qualifications

• University degree or equivalent with a finance focus.
• Experience with daily cash reconciliations and weekly sales audits is a plus.
• Familiarity with AS400 and Excel is advantageous.
• Knowledge of financial statements concepts is needed.

Responsibilities

• Distribute financial reports to management levels.
• Audit store cash deposits against each transaction day.
• Audit electronic tenders against each transaction day.
• Reconcile POS postings to AS400 and coordinate IT for recovery of missing transactions.
• Reconcile Staples gift card program for retail, B2B and corporate orders.
• Reconcile online credit card settlements and investigate variances with Digital team.
• Liaise with banks and Staples Credit issuers to resolve customer escalations.

This involves balancing out cashiers, cash registers, and/or an entire store day, which validates the totals from POS and OMS against the calculated and tendered totals of transactions. If these totals are not equal, this variance is reported as an over or short value.

Some of what you will do:

The primary responsibility is to review the Point-of-Sale (POS) and Order Management System (OMS) transaction data for accuracy. This involves balancing out cashiers, cash registers, and/or an entire store day, which validates the totals from POS and OMS against the calculated and tendered totals of transactions. If these totals are not equal, this variance is reported as an over or short value.

Specifically, You Will:

• Distribute financial reports to various levels of management.


• Audit store cash deposits against each transaction day.


• Electronic audit (non-cash) tenders against each transaction day.


• Audit store POS transaction postings to the AS400 and work with IT to ensure missing transactions are recovered and posted.


• Responsible for the reconciliation of the staples gift card program for retail stores, B2B and corporate orders.


• Reconcile online credit card settlements and collaborate with Digital team to investigate variances.


• Liaise with external service providers (such as banks and Staples Credit issuers) to resolve customer escalations and disputes related to their transactions at Staples.
  

Some Of What You Need

• University degree or equivalent with a finance focus.


• Good understanding of a retail POS system, experience in daily cash reconciliations (deposit preparation, keypunching in AS400) and preparation of the weekly sales audit package would be assets.


• Basic understanding of financial statements and concepts is required.


• PC skills (i.e. Excel) are required.


• Knowledge of AS400 system is a definite asset.


• Bilingual is a definite asset.


• 2-3 years of work experience in an accounting or related field.
