Analyst, Roynat Capital - Canadian Commercial Banking - Waterloo OR London locations

Role

The Analyst is responsible for managing a small client portfolio and assisting our high performing sales force with business development initiatives. The incumbent requires a thorough understanding of interpreting financial statements during the underwriting process and conduct client interfacing due diligence in writing credit deals.

Responsibilities

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Champion a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Meet performance objectives and ensure progress is made towards maximizing the potential business from existing clients and prospects within an assigned market area.
  • Manage and control assigned loan portfolio to ensure it is at an acceptable level of risk and generates an appropriate return.
  • Building sales skills and a portfolio of clients:
    • Developing a strong network of COIs (Centres of Influence) and leads for prospecting and networking to promote creative and holistic solutions which includes Roynat products and services as well as Scotiabank’s financial solutions as appropriate.
    • Maintain a good knowledge of other products and services offered by Scotiabank to support the identification of cross-sell/referral opportunities (i.e. Foreign Exchange, Swaps, Global Transaction Banking (GTB), Wealth Management, etc.).
    • Assist with marketing and project initiatives to enhance Roynat in a competitive corporate and commercial credit marketplace.

Contributing to District Office productivity and self-development as well Operational Excellence of the District Office.

Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk.

Qualifications
  • Solid networking and relationships building skills with proven ability to work cross-functionally with other Roynat/Scotiabank partners.
  • Good knowledge of the Canadian Commercial Banking marketplace.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills through consistent demonstration of approachability, ability to build trust and understanding.
  • Solid knowledge of risk assessment techniques for structuring credit and financial analysis skills.
  • Established portfolio management skills and Intermediate deal structuring skills.
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to think/respond quickly and adapt to change readily.
  • A University degree (undergraduate or graduate level) with a focus on Economics, Commerce, Finance, and/or Accounting.
  • An asset - professional financial designation such as a CPA or CFA (e.g. CA, CMA, CFA) is desirable.
  • Minimum two to five years of related commercial credit or analysis and business development experience in a financial services environment.
