General Purpose

The Research Services Office (RSO), in partnership with Computing and Communications Services (CCS) Enterprise Applications, is leading a multi-year initiative to digitize research administration through the implementation of integrated modules within a Research Administration and Information Management System (RAIMS). These modules support key processes including Human Ethics, Animal Care, Biosafety, and Pre/Post-Award research administration for faculty, students, and staff. The current focus of RAIMS is the implementation and sustainment of the Animal Care Module.

Duties And Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, RSO Business Process Optimization, the Analyst II requires well-developed technical and communication abilities, with a demonstrated capacity to support the implementation, maintenance, enhancement, and ongoing operation of enterprise business applications. In this role, the Analyst II participates in the implementation, configuration, testing, and maintenance of RAIMS systems, while providing technical user support and issue triage to end users. The position contributes to the effective delivery, continuous improvement, and long-term sustainability of supported applications and service.

Activity A: Application/Service Configuration and Development (design, testing and implementation) (30%)

Under direction of the Manager, Business Process Optimization and Systems, The Analyst II will participate in projects and initiatives involving the implementation, configuration, enhancement, testing, and deployment of a Research Administration Platform.

Examples Include
  • Participate in requirements gathering and application configuration activities.
  • Using application administration tools, configure workflows, forms, notifications, business rules, security roles, and system settings.
  • Develop and maintain reports, queries and supporting documentation.
  • Participate in software testing, validation, and user acceptance testing activities.
  • Assist with testing and support activities related to system integrations and data exchange processes.
  • Participate in feasibility assessments and evaluation of new system functionality.
  • Work with university stakeholders, vendors, and technical teams to implement approved enhancements and configure system forms, workflows, and reports to support business processes
  • Assist with project planning, issue tracking, release management, and implementation activities.
Activity B: Application / Service Maintenance (30%)

The Analyst II participates in ongoing operational support and maintenance activities for enterprise business applications and services for the RAIMS program.

Maintenance activities include ensuring system stability, performance, security, data integrity, documentation, and service continuity.

Examples Include
  • Monitor application performance and investigate system issues.
  • Coordinate and execute software upgrades, patches, and releases.
  • Support change management and release management processes.
  • Maintain application documentation, support materials, and operating procedures.
  • Perform testing associated with system updates and enhancements.
  • Monitor data quality and assist with data validation and correction activities.
  • Coordinate with vendors and technical support resources to resolve complex issues.
  • Recommend improvements to business processes, workflows, and system functionality
Activity C: User Support / Client Services / Training (40%)

As part of a team, provide functional and technical support to faculty, staff, researchers, administrators, and external partners using supported systems and services.

This support includes diagnosing issues, answering questions, resolving system problems, and providing guidance regarding system functionality, workflows, and business processes.

  • Respond to, triage, and resolve application support requests and service tickets, escalating issues as required
  • Investigate and troubleshoot system, workflow, access, and data-related issues.
  • Provide timely and accurate information regarding application functionality and processes.
  • Utilize strong interpersonal and communication skills when working with users across the University community.
  • Liaise with vendors and technical support resources regarding application issues.
  • Assist users in adopting new functionality and business processes.
  • Develop and deliver training materials, job aids, workshops, and user support documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to prioritize support requirements and service improvements.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Technology Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Three (3) years of related experience, combined with approximately two (2) years on the job, for a total of five (5) years to achieve full competency in the position.
  • Experience supporting enterprise software applications, including application configuration, testing, implementation, maintenance, and user support.
  • Experience developing and maintaining system workflows, electronic forms with branching logic, and other configurable business processes
  • Experience troubleshooting and resolving application issues while working with end users, technical teams, vendors, and stakeholders.
  • Experience with data management, reporting, information systems administration, and the preparation of user documentation, training materials, and support resources.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills, with an understanding of application testing, documentation, training, and change management practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications and business productivity tools.
  • Experience in a post-secondary, research administration, regulatory, compliance, or business operations environment is considered an asset
