Northland Properties is recognized throughout Canada as one of the most trusted names in hotels, restaurants, sports, and construction. Northland Properties Corporation is the force behind such brands as Sandman Hotel Group, The Sutton Place Hotels, Moxie's Grill & Bar, Chop Steakhouse & Bar, Denny's Restaurants, Shark Club Sports Bar, Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links, Revelstoke Mountain Resort, The Dallas Stars, Grouse Mountain, Northland Asset Management Company and more to come!

The vision of the Northland Finance Leadership team is to develop a world class, industry leading finance function with scalable capabilities and processes to support finance operations, business growth, and compliance. The Finance Automation Analyst will support the Finance Automation Manager by identifying, designing, and implementing process automation solutions that enhance operational efficiency, internal controls, and data integration within the Accounting/Finance function. This role collaborates closely with Finance and cross‑functional teams (e.g. Accounting, IT, Payroll, AP/AR, Data & Analytics) to streamline processes using tools like Microsoft Dynamics 365 and the Microsoft Power Platform (PowerApps, PowerAutomate, PowerPages, PowerBi, Dataverse). The primary goal of this role is to streamline accounting and finance processes to enhance the efficiency of both the Finance team and the overall company. The Analyst is expected to take ownership of specific automation initiatives while maintaining a hands‑on role in solution delivery, testing, troubleshooting, and user training.

While the ideal candidate would bring both knowledge in accounting processes and technical skills within the Microsoft Power Platform, it is recognized this combination may be challenging to find. Realistically, the successful candidate brings strength in one of the two areas, with a strong willingness to learn the area they may have less or no exposure to. A key criteria regardless of skillset will be whether the candidate demonstrates a strong desire to learn, adapt to new technologies, and develop a well‑rounded understanding across both finance and technical areas over time.

Responsibilities
  • Work with inter‑department Finance and business stakeholders to better understand processes being conducted today and identify opportunities for automation.
  • Collaborate with the IT department to assess, adopt, and implement infrastructure for automation.
  • Support the end‑to‑end design, build, and deployment of finance specific apps and automated workflows using Power Platform tools (Power Automate, Power Apps, Dataverse) to reduce or eliminate manual and repetitive tasks, specifically within Finance but also within the broader business where applicable. Activities include requirements gathering, solution design, build, test, deployment, and implementation.
  • Examples of the types of projects the successful candidate would be involved in include automating:
    • Procure to pay process
    • Record to report
    • Order to cash
    • Bank reconciliation
  • Conduct testing, validation, and refinement of automation solutions to ensure reliability, scalability, and performance.
    • Provide ongoing support and maintenance for Power Platform applications and workflows.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to Power Platform components.
    • Stay updated on the latest Power Platform features and best practices.
  • Assist in change management activities such as user training, ongoing support, and issue resolution to ensure the effective adoption of developed tools or automation.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance, Business Administration, or Computer Science.
  • Excellent communicator, self‑motivated and driven team player with the ability to build relationships and community with coworkers and cross‑functional partners.
  • Ability to work with little to no supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years working in accounting or operational functions with a track record of deploying streamlined and automated solutions.
  • Experience developing automation solutions on the Power Platform (PowerApps, PowerAutomate, PowerPages, PowerBi, Dataverse).
  • Understanding of user experience (UX) design principles.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O.
