Job summary

Alvarez & Marsal is seeking an Analyst in Corporate Finance for the Toronto office. You will contribute to restructurings, M&A and financial advisory work while gaining exposure to client meetings and a variety of products. The role emphasizes quick, accurate analysis and strong modeling capabilities.

Ideal candidates have 1 year of investment banking experience, proficiency in Excel/PowerPoint/Word/Bloomberg, and a degree in Business/Finance/Accounting; CFA designation is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of investment banking at a financial analyst level REQUIRED (2 years preferred).
  • Experience in distress/restructuring, capital raising, M&A.
  • Bachelor’s degree with major in Business, Finance or Accounting; CFA designation preferred.
  • Demonstrated quantitative, analytic and modeling skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of capital markets and investment banking products; Excel/PowerPoint/Word/Bloomberg proficiency.
  • Credit analysis knowledge is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills in team and client settings.
  • High level of integrity and attention to detail.

  • Providing a high level of qualitative and quantitative financial modeling.

The Team

As an Analyst in the Investment Banking group, you will gain experience in restructurings, M&A, and financial advisory services. Furthermore, you will have exposure to a variety of products and have the chance to immediately interact with clients. It is expected that you will continue to take on more responsibilities as your transaction execution skills are refined.

How you will contribute
  • Actively participating in corporate finance assignments, a high-pressure environment that requires an ability to quickly and accurately respond to requests
  • Preparing valuations (i.e. comparable analysis, DCF, sum of parts, etc.)
  • Providing a high level of qualitative and quantitative financial modeling
  • Ensuring that all material is accurate, complete and well organized
  • Participating actively in client meetings
  • Preparing pitch books to support the group's ongoing business development efforts
  • Conducting business, industry, and capital markets research
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 1 year of investment banking at a financial analyst level REQUIRED (2 years are preferred)
  • An understanding or experience in distress/restructuring, capital raising M&A
  • Bachelor’s degree with major in Business, Finance or Accounting. Candidates that are working toward or who have completed a Chartered Financial Analyst designation are preferred
  • Demonstrated quantitative, analytic and modeling skills
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of capital markets and investment banking products Expertise in financial and computer applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Bloomberg)
  • Understanding/experience with credit analysis is a plus
  • Strong interpersonal skills utilized within a team environment and in client interaction
  • Strong work ethic, organizational skills and attention to detail
  • High level of integrity
