Job summary

Scotiabank in Calgary is seeking an Analyst for Corporate Banking in Energy. You will support client relationships across a complex energy portfolio and assist with credit presentations, loan structuring, and risk management.

You will work with a senior team to pursue opportunities, apply capital markets knowledge, and ensure compliance with credit policies, while learning and growing in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • 2-4 years of corporate or commercial banking experience
  • 3+ years of energy lending experience preferred
  • Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, MBA / CFA preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of capital markets and corporate lending space in Canada with responsibilities for transactions abroad (U.S., Europe, Asia)
  • Understanding of the Bank’s credit policies and regulatory requirements
  • Strong quantitative skills focused on financial analysis and accounting
  • Clear communication with clients and internal/external contacts
  • Excellent command of Microsoft Suite, with an emphasis on Word and PowerPoint
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Ability to excel under pressure and perform effectively in a team setting
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high standard of work
  • High professional standards including a strong sense of personal integrity and teamwork
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt to new situations
  • High level of energy, willingness to work long hours and a keen desire to learn new concepts

Responsibilities

  • Assist client relationships across a complex portfolio of energy producers and midstream clients; deliver solutions across GBM products
  • Work with senior corporate banking to pursue business opportunities with corporate/institutional clients
  • Apply product and capital markets knowledge to help clients achieve financial objectives
  • Assist in managing loan portfolio to meet targets while managing risk
  • Assist with structuring and executing new transactions and credit facilities
  • Ensure credit presentations follow Bank standards and are accurate
  • Perform due diligence on transactions varying in complexity
  • Review credit agreements and security documents
  • Support a high-performance, inclusive work environment
  • Learn a broad set of skills required to succeed in GBM

Global Banking and Markets

Global Banking and Markets (GBM) conducts the Bank’s wholesale banking and capital markets business with corporate, government and institutional investor clients. GBM is a full-service wholesale bank and investment dealer in Canada and Mexico and offers a range of products and services in the U.S., Latin America and in select markets in Europe and Asia-Pacific.


More specifically, GBM provides clients with: corporate lending; transaction banking (including payments, trade finance and cash management); investment banking (including corporate finance and mergers & acquisitions); fixed income and equity underwriting, sales, trading and research; prime services (prime brokerage and stock lending); foreign exchange sales and trading; commodity derivatives; and collateral management.


Position Highlights

Work in the Canadian Corporate Banking Energy team to manage client relationships across a complex portfolio of public and private companies. Provide ongoing credit management including: completion of credit presentations, identifying lending and cross-sell opportunities, preparing client presentations and pitches, structuring loan transactions, reviewing documentation, monitoring compliance and industry trends.


What You Will Do


  • Assist with client relationships across a complex portfolio of public and private energy producers, midstream and diversified clients; deliver solutions across suite of products and services offered by GBM and the rest of Bank

  • Work with senior corporate banking team to pursue business opportunities; market a range of credit and non-lending products and services to corporate and/or institutional clients

  • Apply product and capital markets knowledge to help clients achieve financial objectives

  • Assist with managing loan portfolio to achieve financial and profitability targets while managing industry portfolio risk and loan losses

  • Assist with management of loan portfolio including: structuring and executing new transactions, credit presentations for annual reviews, coordination of account management with team members and Global Risk Management, amendments to existing credit facilities

  • Ensure credit presentations follow Bank standards, and are accurate, concise and complete

  • Perform due diligence on transactions that vary in complexity

  • Ensure credit files, agreements and security documents are complete and up to date

  • Monitor and follow for client compliance reporting requirements

  • Demonstrate clear understanding of the Bank’s credit policies and procedures ensuring the portfolio is managed within appropriate parameters and within regulatory requirements

  • Structuring credit transactions to manage risk appropriately

  • Review of credit agreements and ancillary legal documents

  • Champions a high-performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment to attract, retain, develop and motivate team and other Bank colleagues by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours

  • Associate position is a learning role, and requires the individual to be self motivated and keen on learning the broad variety of skills required to succeed

Work Arrangement

This position is an onsite role, with the expectation that you will work 5 days a week in the office. Please note that this is subject to change based on the needs of the business.
