Job summary

Global Technical Talent, an Inc. 5000 Company, seeks an AML Business Analyst in Toronto for a 5‑month contract. The role bridges Finance Crime Risk Management business users and Technology delivery teams, translating regulatory and risk requirements into data-enabled solutions.

You will analyze large datasets, manage STTM, perform BAT testing, and support UAT and production releases. The position is hybrid with 3 days onsite in Toronto.

Qualifications

  • 5–7 years of overall experience as a Business Analyst or Data Analyst with strong SQL, data analysis, data validation and testing, and business-logic understanding.
  • Strong BA skills with BAT experience; track record of working with Data, Technology, and Data Governance teams.
  • Strong SQL capability (non-negotiable): interpret data, derive conclusions, query and analyze large datasets.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the business use case behind transaction-monitoring systems.
  • Review source-to-target mapping (STTM).
  • Analyze large datasets to identify patterns, gaps, and inconsistencies.
  • Query data using SQL (Oracle SQL Developer is the primary environment).
  • Review business rules and validate that implemented logic supports intended business requirements.
  • Validate that data behaves as expected as it moves through environments.
  • Write and execute test cases; support UAT and production-release testing.
  • Identify gaps or failures in data transformations and business logic.
  • Communicate findings to technical and data teams.
  • Translate technical and data concepts into business language for stakeholders.
  • Trace how data moves through multiple systems and understand data lineage.
  • Review whether implemented logic supports the intended business requirements.
  • Support UAT and sign-off processes.
  • Eventually own communication for a particular data stream.
  • Interact with both internal and external stakeholders; spend approximately 2 hours daily in meetings.
  • Work with access to customer data in accordance with applicable compliance requirements.

Job Summary

The AML Business Analyst should be able to understand business requirements and interact with and explain to technology and QA teams, Transaction Monitoring, and broader Financial Crime Risk Management (FCRM) platforms, acting as a critical bridge between FCRM business users and Technology delivery teams. This role ensures that complex regulatory, risk, and detection requirements are accurately translated into technology solutions that are well-designed, data-enabled, tested, operationally ready, and sustainable in BAU. The analyst enables safe and effective change across FCRM platforms by combining business application ownership, business testing leadership, data enablement, and strong stakeholder orchestration.

Key Responsibilities

Required Skills
  • 5–7 years of overall experience (may be relaxed for exceptional candidates)
  • Strong BA skills with BAT (Business Acceptance Testing) experience; track record of working with Data, Technology, and Data Governance teams
  • Strong SQL capability (non-negotiable): ability to interpret data, derive conclusions, query and analyze large datasets, and troubleshoot why particular data or results fail validation
  • Comfortable working with very large datasets; able to understand relationships between different data elements
  • Understanding of ETL, data mapping, and data lineage, including experience reviewing source-to-target mapping (STTM) and understanding where data originates, how it moves, changes, and ultimately gets loaded
  • Ability to understand business rules and use cases behind data transformations; review whether implemented logic supports intended business requirements; identify gaps or inconsistencies
  • Ability to create and execute business testing plans focused on business use case perspective; work closely with BAT test leads; approximately 7/10 proficiency in test-case writing and validation
  • Familiarity with JIRA, Confluence, and other BA tools
  • Ability to understand how data supports a particular business use case
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Great communication skills; able to explain technical discussions in simple business terms
  • Ability to take ownership and act as single point of contact between multiple teams and handle small initiatives
Preferred Skills
  • AML experience preferred; Oracle ECM / Transaction Monitoring experience considered an asset
  • Familiarity with AML use cases and business rules
  • Understanding of case-management workflows, different user roles and permissions, how cases move through a system, and general application workflow
  • Familiarity with Financial Crime, Case Management, and Oracle ECM
Education Requirements
  • Undergraduate (UG) degree required
Required Experience
  • 5–7 years of overall experience as a Business Analyst or Data Analyst with strong SQL, data analysis, data validation and testing, and business-logic understanding

  • Experience with data mapping, data lineage, and business-logic validationExperience writing and executing UAT test cases and supporting sign-off
Nice-to-Have Experience
  • Previous AML transaction monitoring experience; a business background is essential
  • Banking or financial crime experience
  • Experience with Oracle ECM or Transaction Monitoring platforms
  • Experience with Financial Crime Investigations (FCI) workflows
Work Environment / Physical Requirements
  • Hybrid work model: 3 days per week onsite in Toronto, ON (Tuesday preferred as anchor day)
  • Approximately 2 hours of meetings daily
  • Interaction with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Access to customer data required; candidate must comply with applicable data-handling and regulatory requirements
  • Team size: 10–12 people
  • Training period: approximately 1 month, hands-on
  • No rotation; no furlough anticipated
