Job summary

Community Living Greater Sudbury is seeking energetic Direct Support Professionals to work afternoon shifts and part-time schedules, supporting adults with developmental disabilities in a safe, respectful home environment. You will assist with personal care, community participation, meal preparation, and documentation while upholding the organization's mission and values.

A G‑class license and relevant DSW diploma are preferred.

Qualifications

• G Class Driver's License required or preferred.
• CPR and First Aid certification required.
• Covid-19 vaccination preferred.
• Developmental Service Worker Diploma or related field of study required.
• 2 Step TB test and CPI training are assets.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to set and reach personal goals for individuals.
• Assist participation in educational, recreational, and religious activities in the community.
• Support with personal care, including medication administration, bathing, skin care, and hygiene.
• Maintain a clean, safe home environment and prepare nutritious meals.
• Develop and maintain social and personal relationships for participants.
• Provide information to support informed decision-making by individuals.
• Complete daily documentation and medical follow-up as required.
• Promote the organization’s mission and values in workplace and community.
• Assist with behavioural support plans and skill acquisition programs to reduce risk behavior.
• Support individuals displaying risk behaviour using Non-Violent Crisis Intervention strategies.

Job Description

Community living is looking for energetic, motivated and career- minded Afternoons shift and part time direct support professionals. You are the ideal candidate if you possess the core and threshold competencies of advocating for others, collaboration, creative problem solving and decision making, and you can demonstrate mature and respectful communication as well as, exhibit resilience and flexibility.

You will be responsible for monitoring and supporting adults with developmental disabilities in accordance with the organization’s mission statement. You will be involved with ensuring a safe, clean, and secure environment, and meal preparation.

Responsibilities

• Provide support for individuals to set and reach personal goals.
• Support individuals to participate in the community, including educational, recreational, and religious activities.
• Assist individuals with personal care, as required, including medication administration, bathing, skin care, and personal hygiene.
• Provide support to complete duties within the home, including maintaining a clean and safe environment and the preparation of nutritious meals.
• Assist with the development and maintenance of social and personal relationships.
• Provide information to individuals to support the development of informed decision-making skills.
• Complete computerized documentation, daily reporting, and medical follow-up, etc.
• Promote the mission and values of the organization in the workplace and community.
• Assist in implementing behavioural support plans and skill acquisition programs to reduce risk behavior.
• Supporting individuals displaying risk behaviour while remaining calm and using Non-Violent Crisis Intervention strategies.

• Advocate for and ensure participants’ rights, dignity, well-being, and protection from harm
• Completion and follow up of data collection and documentation, as required.

Work Hours

The hours of work are scheduled 56 hours bi-weekly with the potential of more shifts as they become available (Part-time)
