The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the oldest student association in Canada and has been a central student organization at Queen's since its founding in 1858. Today, the AMS acts as a service, advocacy, and governing body on behalf of all students enrolled in AMS-affiliated programs at Queen's University.

The AMS is a not-for-profit entity created by the Society to ensure its continuing financial viability by overseeing the management of its services and associated financial affairs. It is bound by the By-laws and corporate philosophy of our Mission and Operating statements as set out in the AMS Constitution.

In addition to providing wage-based service staff positions for students wanting employment, the AMS seeks to support the Society's broader objectives through the provisioning of a high quality, relevant range of student funded services, that provide a wide range of employment opportunities and meaningful out-of-classroom learning and skill acquisition experiences for students.

Job Summary

The AMS Media Centre seeks to provide the Queen’s and Kingston community with exceptional media and production services, at competitive prices with trusted quality. The Media Centre offers a wide variety of services including standard and specialty printing, photography, videography, and graphic design. This service is also responsible for the creation and distribution of the AMS Agenda, the Tricolour Yearbook, and CoursePacks, as well as executing the rental of hoods and gowns for Queen’s convocation. The Media Centre blends technology with professional customer service to create an energetic, student-run hub comprised of a team of seven managers, several supervisors, and service staff.

Position Overview

The AMS Media Centre Logistics and Staff Relations Assistant Manager, under the direction of the AMS Media Centre Head Manager, will mainly be responsible for managing the Media Centre staff. This includes planning and executing staff training, organizing and publishing staff schedules, ensuring store coverage, and acting as an extension of the Human Resources Office. They will also be responsible for organizing and executing the rental of hoods and gowns for Queen’s University convocation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create weekly schedules for both Production and Creative Hub staff, ensuring consistent store coverage.
  • Plan and execute staff training and staff socials in collaboration with the Purchasing and Productions Assistant Manager.
  • Act as both a resource and a liaison between the Human Resources Office and staff, including setting, scheduling, and attending meetings with the Human Resources Office.
  • Take measures to discuss disciplinary action and demerit points when necessary.
  • Oversee the planning, rentals, and distribution of hoods and gowns for Queen’s Convocation.
