About The Role

The Alumni and Graduate Career Services Coordinator is responsible for the development and delivery of graduate career services targeting third- and fourth-year students, as well as the implementation of strategic professional enrichment programs and services for alumni at all stages of their careers. As a member of the Career Development team in Career Services this role focuses on building and strengthening alumni engagement with the campus community through volunteer and professional development programs and services. This highly collaborative role will facilitate a deepened knowledge and relationship with MRU graduating students and alumni to deliver on MRU’s strategic priorities.

Using market research and industry best practices, the position develops, evolves, and coordinates a multi-year plan for program delivery with a strong ‘digital-first’ focus, utilizing social media and digital platforms and channels to provide personalized, convenient, accessible services at scale to the diverse alumni across Canada and the world.

This role is passionate about student success and promotes a ‘no-one-is-left-behind’ approach, engaging directly with students throughout their time at MRU and post-graduation.

Responsibilities

Development and Delivery

  • Facilitate maximum participation of third- and fourth-year students in career development programs, events, and services.
  • Utilize integrated major maps to facilitate life-design sessions and other student development opportunities, supporting skill-building via co-curricular activities, career exploration, and career coaching.
  • Champion equity, diversity and inclusion, through the development of tailored resources and programs to increase access and minimize barriers.
  • Work with stakeholders to contribute to the growth and innovation of career education and experiential learning opportunities that align with NACE’s Career Readiness Competencies.
  • In partnership with the department and program areas across MRU programs, assess needs and bridge gaps in response to labour market trends and industry demands.
  • Develop systemic approaches to support third- and fourth-year students, while balancing academic and pre-professional disciplines, and delivering consistent graduate outcomes.
  • Facilitate programming that enables near-graduates to demonstrate competencies acquired through experiential and work-integrated learning.
  • Coordinate the development, planning, implementation, ongoing delivery and evaluation of a portfolio of career events, programs and services that develop the career competencies required for a successful transition from university to industry.
  • Ensure professional readiness of graduating students by connecting them with meaningful networking, mentorship and development opportunities.
  • Promote the use of MyCareerHub, track application and success rates of near-graduates and new alumni.
  • Support relationship building with committee members and with the implementation of annual goals, ensuring alignment with Career Services’ strategic priorities.
  • Participate in ongoing experiential learning research and national conversations related to student development focused on professional experiences, reviewing recommended practices.
  • In collaboration with team members, develop quotas, performance measurement metrics, and assessment plans that can generate evidence-based recommendations.
  • Contribute to annual performance measurement collection including the creation and execution of relevant surveys and reports.
  • Coordinate the collection of data and assessment of programming; ensuring key performance indicator targets are met.
  • In collaboration with relevant university departments, collect, measure and monitor accurate data related to graduate employment and graduate career-related metrics.
  • Support and promote the department’s student services as a member of the Career Services engagement team.

Coordinate Alumni Programs and Services

  • Collaborate closely with Career Services colleagues to implement a full suite of online career tools and supports specifically for MRU alumni.
  • Utilize digital platforms to develop and deliver relevant innovative programming for MRU alumni.
  • Undertake regular market research to understand audience segments and alumni needs for professional enrichment programs and services at all career stages.
  • Coordinate the delivery of career development, mentorship, job search and career self-management services which can contribute to the career success of MRU alumni.
  • Research, design, curate and coordinate general and targeted online professional enrichment programming and content, utilizing alumni as subject-matter experts.
  • Leverage the relationship-marketing framework adopted by Career Services to strengthen alumni engagement with MRU.
  • Build strategic partnerships with internal stakeholders, employers, corporations, external vendors and alumni volunteers in order to scale up and augment programming and service delivery.
  • Build networking and mentoring opportunities for grads and support the development of alumni communities of interest.
  • Coordinate and grow alumni engagement on MyCareerHub job boards to meet industry partner talent needs.
  • Utilize databases and contact management systems to track, update and maintain accurate stakeholder contacts.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in a relevant discipline
  • Minimum 3 - 5 years of combined experience in one or more of the following:
    • marketing and digital engagement,
    • human resources or talent retention,
    • marketing and communications,
    • career services,
    • stakeholder relations.
  • Previous career development and continuing education delivery experience within a post-secondary institution
  • Strong marketing, relationship management and customer service skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and engage others
  • High degree of comfort with online tools and platforms as a means of stakeholder engagement
  • Strong ability to deliver formal presentations to different audiences, engaging attendees virtually and in person
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills and the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders and clients
  • Strong ability to self-direct work, manage complex projects and set and meet key deadlines
  • Experience coordinating services and tracking multi-year development goals including experience with outcomes assessment
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment with competing deadlines and commitments
  • Ability to problem-solve with diplomacy and tact
  • Knowledge of the Canadian labour market and workplace expectations
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and access to own vehicle
