Job description

Job Title: Project Engineer

As a Project Engineer, you’ll engage in early development initiatives that promote business growth and advance emerging technologies, including carbon and emissions reduction. You will lead technical research efforts, playing a vital role in the energy transition.

Responsibilities:

1. Lead initiatives through project development phases, reporting to a development or opportunity lead. These may include new projects, expansions, or facility modifications.
2. Conduct technical feasibility studies to define project scope, evaluate alternatives, and de-risk projects, including scope definition, engineering design, and interfacing with third-party contractors.
3. Collaborate with teams across various departments and external stakeholders.
4. Review engineering designs, develop and evaluate process simulations, heat and material balances, and process flow diagrams.
5. Analyze and evaluate technologies that enhance AltaGas’ midstream assets, using analytical skills to test and adapt new technologies.
6. Support applications for government grants and funding related to emission reduction.
7. Identify and develop opportunities for process optimization, energy efficiency, and cost reduction.

Qualifications:

• 5-10 years of front-end project development experience.
• Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA in good standing.
• Effective management of multiple projects and stakeholder expectations.
• Strong communication skills, capable of presenting to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Innovative thinking and critical analysis skills.
• Strong planning and organizational skills to foresee and mitigate potential issues.
• Experience coordinating with external stakeholders, vendors, and technology providers.
• Experience with energy transition and decarbonization technologies is an asset.
• Midstream or facilities experience is an asset.
